Senior Technical Product Manager at Fairmoney Microfinance Bank

FairMoney is building the leading mobile bank for emerging markets. We started with a digital microcredit application on Android, and currently roll out additional financial services (current account, savings, debit card) while expanding the product to Western Africa and South-East Asia.

Job Title: Senior Technical Product Manager

Role Overview

• The Technical Product Manager will oversee the strategic development and enhancement of our payment systems, including payment switches and backend infrastructure.
• This role requires a strong technical background in payment systems architecture and a deep understanding of the technical challenges associated with high-volume financial transactions.

Job Description
Technical Strategy and System Architecture:

• Develop and refine the technical strategy for payment processing, focusing on scalability, security, and compliance.
• Design and oversee the implementation of system architectures that support complex payment transactions.

Product Development:

• Lead the technical development of payment solutions, from conceptualization to deployment, ensuring they meet business needs and performance standards.
• Collaborate with engineering teams to ensure technical feasibility and timely execution of product initiatives.

Market and Technology Analysis:

• Conduct ongoing analysis of the latest payment technologies and industry trends.
• Evaluate competitive payment solutions and technologies to ensure Fairmoney remains at the cutting edge.

Risk Management and Compliance:

• Work closely with the compliance and risk management teams to ensure all payment solutions adhere to national and international financial regulations.
• Implement strategies to mitigate technical risks associated with payment processing.

Performance Optimization:

• Monitor and optimize the performance of payment systems to handle increased transaction volumes without compromising on speed or accuracy.
• Utilize data analytics to improve system efficiencies and user satisfaction.

Stakeholder Collaboration:

• Collaborate with internal and external stakeholders to define product requirements and roadmaps.
• Ensure alignment between technical teams and business objectives, facilitating effective communication and project management.

Requirements

• Bachelorʼs or Masterʼs degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field.
• Proven experience as a Product Manager in a technical role, specifically within the payments industry.
• Strong background in developing payment switches and understanding of backend infrastructure essential for high-volume financial operations.
• Proficiency in technical aspects of payment systems, including APIs, payment gateways, and transaction lifecycle management.
• Demonstrated ability to lead technical teams and manage complex product developments.
• Excellent problem-solving skills and ability to think strategically and analytically.
• Familiarity with the Nigerian payment ecosystem and regulatory environment is highly beneficial.
