As a startup institution entering a critical growth phase, the organization is building a scalable digital banking model designed to serve individuals, SMEs, and underserved markets through secure, data-driven financial services aligned with CBN regulatory standards.

To establish a world-class financial foundation and institutional governance structure from inception, the Bank is recruiting an exceptional executive to fill the position below.

Job Title: Head of Business Development & Marketing

Location: Lagos
Employment Type: Full-time

Job Description

  • The Head of Business Development & Marketing will hold executive responsibility for building and executing the Bank’s end-to-end growth strategy across customer acquisition, deposit mobilization, partnerships, brand positioning, and revenue expansion.
  • This role is a foundational leadership mandate responsible for designing and institutionalizing the Bank’s commercial engine from the ground up.
  • Reporting directly to Executive Management, the successful candidate will develop scalable growth frameworks integrating sales execution, digital marketing, partnership ecosystems, and data-driven customer acquisition strategies suitable for a fintech microfinance environment.

Responsibilities
Growth Strategy & Market Expansion:

  • Develop and execute the Bank’s overall business growth and market penetration strategy.
  • Define customer acquisition models across retail, SME, and partnership channels.
  • Identify priority market segments and commercial opportunities.
  • Drive sustainable deposit mobilization and product adoption initiatives.
  • Establish measurable growth KPIs aligned with institutional targets.

Business Development & Partnerships:

  • Identify, negotiate, and onboard strategic partners including corporates, fintechs, aggregators, and SME ecosystems.
  • Develop agency, employer, and institutional acquisition channels.
  • Build partnerships supporting lending distribution and customer expansion.
  • Drive ecosystem collaborations to accelerate market presence.

Sales Structure Development:

  • Build and scale the Bank’s sales organization from inception.
  • Design sales governance, performance frameworks, and incentive structures.
  • Recruit, train, and lead high-performing business development teams.
  • Establish scalable acquisition processes across physical and digital channels.

Marketing & Brand Leadership:

  • Develop integrated marketing strategy covering digital, offline, and performance marketing.
  • Establish brand positioning aligned with fintech innovation and trust.
  • Drive customer engagement, activation, and retention campaigns.
  • Oversee product launch and go-to-market execution.

Data-Driven Growth Execution:

  • Implement analytics-driven decision-making across acquisition funnels.
  • Optimize marketing spend and growth efficiency.
  • Provide executive reporting on growth performance and market insights.

Cross-Functional Leadership:

  • Collaborate with Product, Risk, Operations, and Technology teams.
  • Align growth initiatives with regulatory and risk requirements.
  • Translate customer insights into product enhancement opportunities.
  • Support executive decision-making through market intelligence.

Requirements
Education:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Business Administration, Marketing, Economics, Finance, or related discipline.
  • MBA or relevant postgraduate qualification preferred.
  • Professional certifications in Marketing, Sales, or Business Strategy are advantageous.

Experience:

  • Minimum of 12 years progressive experience in Business Development, Sales, Growth, or Marketing within banking, fintech, or financial services.
  • Minimum of 7 years in leadership capacity.
  • Demonstrated experience building or scaling commercial functions.
  • Proven track record driving customer acquisition and revenue growth.
  • Experience managing multi-channel acquisition strategies.
  • Prior exposure to startup, digital banking, or transformation environments strongly preferred.
  • Experience working within regulated financial institutions is an advantage.

Skills:

  • Strong commercial leadership within banking or fintech environments.
  • Deep understanding of SME and retail financial services markets.
  • Expertise in growth strategy, sales leadership, and partnership development.
  • Advanced knowledge of digital acquisition and performance marketing.
  • Strong analytical and data-driven decision capability.
  • Ability to build structures within startup environments.
  • Excellent negotiation and stakeholder management skills.
  • Executive presence with strong leadership influence.
