Job Summary
The incumbent, under supervision, will play a key role in the development andmanagement of AFC’s Metals & Mining activities.
The key areas of responsibilitiesare: market & client research, credit and investment analysis, technical writing, duediligence, investment approval documentation and business performance trackingand reporting.
Principal Duties and Responsibilities
Financial Modelling:
Conduct financial analysis and risk assessment on project proposals, including developing and interpreting financial models.
Perform various corporate and asset valuation methods: comparable companies, precedent transactions and DCF;
Perform corporate and project finance debt analysis and produce critical ratios for projects.
Investment Execution Support:
Assist with the preparation of transactions documents such as engagement letters proposals, presentations, Credit and Investment Memoranda, financial andvaluation analysis reports, etc for AFC’s investment considerations (debt, equityetc).
Participate in deal meetings as well as help maintain client relationships as required.
Assist in administering the investment processes associated with deals e.g procurement of consultants, coordination across internal departmentsprocessing disbursement requests etc.
Perform due diligence, research, analysis, and documentation of live transactions;
Assist the deal team with the development of recommendations for product offerings, private equity transactions, mergers and acquisitions, and valuations;
Provide any additional support to the Metals & Mining team as required.
Deal Origination Support:
Assist with the development of presentations and proposals for debt/equity transactions
Create presentations for clients to solicit mandates or in support of mandated transactions;
Preparation of conference and sector slides
Research:
Work with the team to maintain databases on transactions and companies financials/multiples within the sector coverage;
Keep abreast of and analyze the impact on clients of current events, critical issues, and relevant news.
Undertake research and analysis on prospective clients, companies and industries to identify financial trends and issues.
Assist with all due diligence related activities as required.
Cross sector/divisional support:
Prepare and review materials used in the financing of sponsor, including investment memoranda, management presentations and pitchbooks
Skills:
Ability to conduct analysis of financial projections and impact of financing variables through the preparation of financial models.
Financial modelling skills.
Experience of financial analysis and ability to develop complex financial models.
Ability to respond to issues associated with project finance, corporate loans, equity investments and other investment considerations.
Strong business writing, strong communication skills and excellent interpersonal skills
Commitment to staying up to date on industry trends.
Experience in the preparation of presentations of financial materials.
Keen attention to detail and willingness to work hard.
Experience with financial markets software and applications including Bloomberg, FactSet and Capital IQ.
Demonstrated knowledge and application of financial tools for tracking projects.
Fluency in writing and speaking English is mandatory. (Ability to write and speak French is desirable)
Strong interest in development finance and multicultural environments.

Knowledge:
Advanced skill in the use of the Microsoft Office suite, especially Word, Excel and PowerPoint
Experience in financial analysis, financial models, financial projections, and basic infrastructure project review knowledge.
Knowledge of financial products, including: project and structured debt, private equity, mezzanine, treasury, capital markets, guarantees and project development.
Basic credit and investment review capacity.
Market knowledge of the Metals & Mining sector in Africa generally, and the infrastructure segment specifically, with basic knowledge of the key markets, sponsors and competitors.
Strong research skills, with a clear capacity to develop research material usingpublicly available information, and by leveraging various networks and internalresources available.
Commitment to staying up to date on industry trends in Infrastructure space
Key Performance Indicators
Quality of Investment Memos, financial models, valuation and other ad hoc analyses, pitch decks and internal presentation decks
Turnaround time and quality of analytical output
Quality of output from research work on transactions, sector activity and market trends
Quality and timing of all other assigned tasks
Minimum Qualifications& Other Requirements
Education:
A strong First Degree in Engineering (focus in Mining) or Geology, Economics, Finance or other related field of study with a demonstrated understanding of financial concepts
Relevant advanced Degree e.g. Master’s Degree in Business Administration, Engineering, Finance, or a related field of study.
A CFA designation, or the pursuit of a CFA designation will be an added advantage.
Experience:
3 - 5 years of work experience with at least 2 years of experience in direct investing, corporate finance, investment banking, accounting, lending, private equity or financial advisory functions;
Experience in the mining sector is a plus or added advantage.
