We are recruiting to fill the position below:
Job Title: Management Information Systems (MIS) Specialist
The position will be responsible for the design, administration, optimization, and continuous improvement of the programme Management Information System (MIS) used across the GAIN Nigeria project portfolio.
The role will manage data flows from digital data collection platforms into the MIS, ensure system reliability, and support the automation of real time analytics and reporting dashboards.
The MIS Specialist will ensure that programme data is well structured, accurate, secure, and readily accessible for decision making, donor reporting, and performance tracking.
The position will report to the Programme Monitoring and Improvement (PMI) Manager and work closely with the Knowledge Leadership (KL) team and implementing partners to strengthen data systems and support evidence-based programme management.
Tasks and Responsibilities
MIS Development and Administration:
Design, configure, and maintain the centralized MIS for GAIN Nigeria project portfolio, ensuring system stability, security, and ease of use.
Manage data pipelines that integrate digital data collection platforms (SurveyCTO, CommCare, Kobo, ODK, etc.) with the MIS.
Ensure the MIS supports real-time data synchronization, disaggregation, and automated analytics required for programme decision making.
Ensure system backups, data security protocols, user access rights, and version control.
Data Integration and Quality Assurance:
Coordinate data integration, cleaning, structuring, and validation processes to maintain high quality, reliable datasets in the MIS.
Monitor synchronization processes and troubleshoot issues related to API connections, form updates, and data mapping.
Conduct routine data quality reviews in collaboration with PMI team and implementing partners.
Develop automated data quality checks and alerts to identify anomalies, inconsistencies, or incomplete submissions.
Reporting and Visualization:
Develop and maintain interactive dashboards (Power BI, Tableau, or equivalent) that provide real-time performance analytics and automated donor reporting outputs.
Support the PMI Manager in generating high quality programme reports using MIS data and visualizations.
Ensure dashboards reflect required disaggregation categories and support programme decision making and donor reporting.
Develop custom MIS reports for programme teams, implementing partners, and Country Management Team.
Stakeholder Engagement:
Provide technical support and troubleshooting for MIS users across programme teams and implementing partners.
Train PMI Officers, programme teams, and partner staff on MIS use, data entry standards, and dashboard interpretation.
Support the onboarding of implementing partners by ensuring they understand data submission requirements and MIS-related processes.
Collaborate with the PMI, KL and programme teams to ensure MIS outputs feed into learning products and adaptive management processes.
Key Organizational Relationships
Reports to the PMI Manager, GAIN Nigeria.
Works closely with Programme, Communications, KL and Country Management Team (CMT) at GAIN.
Liaises with implementing partners, government, and other external stakeholders.
Job Requirements
Educational Qualification:
Degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, Statistics, Data Science, or a related field.
Certifications in MIS architecture, database administration, data engineering, or systems integration.
Experience:
Experience in MIS development, administration, and data systems management within development or technology-driven programmes.
Practical experience with digital data collection platforms such as SurveyCTO, CommCare, ODK, Kobo, or equivalent tools.
Experience building automated dashboards using Power BI, Tableau, or similar visualization platforms.
Experience with API integrations, ETL processes, SQL databases, and data pipeline automation.
Experience supporting programme teams with data management and reporting needs.
Experience in data security, user permission management, and documentation of MIS processes.
Competencies:
Strong MIS administration skills, including configuration, optimization, and troubleshooting of data systems.
Proficiency in SQL, Python, or R for data processing and automation.
Advanced skills in dashboard development using Power BI or Tableau.
Strong understanding of data structures, metadata, and database management.
Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities.
Excellent documentation and technical communication skills.
Ability to train and support diverse user groups effectively.
Highly organized, with the ability to manage multiple system tasks and deliver under tight timelines.
Other Requirements:
Willingness and ability to travel frequently to the field.
Fluency in English, written and verbal.
