Provost at Federal College of Education, Ididep

The Federal College of Education (FCE), Ididep, Ibiono Ibom, Akwa Ibom State, is a newly established Nigerian federal institution focused on training teachers for basic education. It has opened admission for 2025/2026 NCE programmes (minimum 100 UTME score), requiring a change of institution on the JAMB portal.

Job Title: Provost 

Location: Ididep - Ibiono, Akwa Ibom 

Duties of the Provost
The duties of the Provost among others shall include the following:

• The Provost is the Chief Executive of the College, Administrative and Accounting Officer of the College.
• The successful candidate would be expected to provide the required Academic, Administrative and Professional Leadership for the College in executing the broad policies laid down by the Governing Council for the achievement of the objectives for which the College was established.
• The Provost is the Chairman of the Academic Board;
• The Provost shall attend all meetings of the Governing Council and present periodic reports on the activities and progress of the College.
• He/She shall ensure the faithful and timely implementation of all decisions of the Governing Council; Ensure compliance with Federal Government policies and directives from the Federal Ministry of Education;
• Prepare and present annual budgets and financial reports to the Governing Council and relevant authorities; and
• He/She has statutory power to exercise general authority over the staff and students for direction and discipline in the College.

 Requirements

• The Candidate should possess Doctorate Degree (Ph.D) from are cognized University in a field relevant to at least one programme in the College and must be from the Colleges of Education sub-sector;
• The Candidate must be a Chief Lecturer with at least five (5) years cognate experience;
• He/She should be a registered and active member of a Professional Association in the field of Education;
• The possession of a professional teaching qualification, a minimum of Nigeria Certificate in Education (NCE) or Post Graduate Diploma in Education (PGDE), in addition to registration as a Professional Teacher with TRCN is mandatory;
• The Candidate must not be above the age of fifty-nine (59) years at the time of taking up the appointment;
• The Candidate must have held a senior teaching/research and top administrative post(s) in a College of Education as evidence of ability to manage human and material resources
• The Candidate must show evidence of good track record in result- oriented research reaching high National and International status in their research achievements, as evident in scholarly publications;
• The Candidate must be of good conduct and character, possess sense of discipline, dedication, drive and resourcefulness and be able to command the respect and loyalty of the members of staff and students of the College;
• He/She must be somebody who is not likely to promote personal, social, ethnic, political, religious and other sectional interests;
• The Candidate must be proficient in Information Communication Technology packages and capacities;

Vision and Mission Statement

• The Candidates must submit, in clear terms, in not more than two (2)pages, his/her Vision and Mission statement for the College in the next 5 years. Additional, candidates should also submit a 3-minute video of same.

Salary

• Salary / remuneration are as contained in the Conditions of Service for Provosts of Federal Colleges of Education in Nigeria. 

Terms of Appointment / Condition of Service:

• Successful candidate will be entitled to the privileges and benefits of Provost as specified in the Terms and Conditions of Service for staff of Federal Colleges of Education in Nigeria and other conditions which may be approved from time to time by the Governing Council of the College in accordance with the Colleges of Education Act, and in Consultation with the National Commission for Colleges of Education (NCCE).

Tenure of Appointment:

• The appointments is for a single tenure of five (5) years only from the date of Appointment.
