We are recruiting to fill the position below:

Job Title: Head of Retail Sales

Location: Lagos

Job Summary

  • As part of our aggressive growth and expansion strategy, we are seeking a highly experienced and commercially driven Head of Retail Sales to lead our national retail sales operations and drive market dominance across modern trade channels.
  • The Head of Retail Sales will be responsible for developing and executing the national retail sales strategy, driving distribution expansion, revenue growth, and in-store excellence across supermarkets, pharmacies, hotels, and other modern trade outlets.
  • This role will lead a nationwide team of Territory Sales Developers, manage key retail partnerships, and ensure that the company’s products achieve optimal visibility, availability, and performance at the point of sale.

Key Responsibilities
Strategic Growth & Market Penetration:

  • Develop and execute a comprehensive national retail sales strategy aligned with business objectives
  • Drive distribution expansion (breadth and depth) across supermarkets, pharmacies, and key retail outlets
  • Identify high-potential markets and channels to increase product accessibility and visibility

Key Account & Partnership Management:

  • Lead negotiations with key retail chains, pharmacy groups, hotels, and e-commerce platforms
  • Secure prime shelf space, favorable trade terms, and optimal product positioning
  • Build and maintain strong relationships with key decision-makers and procurement teams

Team Leadership & Performance Management:

  • Recruit, train, and manage a nationwide team of Territory Sales Developers
  • Set clear sales targets, KPIs, and performance expectations
  • Conduct regular performance reviews, coaching, and capability development initiatives
  • Foster a high-performance, results-driven sales culture

Sales & Revenue Growth:

  • Drive achievement of monthly, quarterly, and annual sales targets
  • Actively manage secondary sales performance across all retail channels
  • Optimize sales strategies to ensure consistent volume and value growth

Trade Marketing & In-Store Execution:

  • Collaborate with marketing to execute in-store activations, promotions, and product sampling initiatives
  • Ensure strong merchandising standards and brand visibility across all retail touchpoints
  • Drive consumer education on the health benefits and unique value proposition of products

Inventory & Supply Chain Coordination:

  • Monitor stock levels across key accounts to prevent stock-outs and overstocking
  • Ensure efficient product flow from warehouse to retail shelves
  • Collaborate with supply chain teams to support timely replenishment and demand planning

Market Intelligence & Business Insights:

  • Provide insights on competitor activities, pricing strategies, and consumer trends
  • Analyze market data to refine product positioning and sales strategies
  • Identify opportunities for innovation and market differentiation

Key Performance Indicators (KPIs)

  • Sales Volume & Revenue Growth: Achievement of national sales targets
  • Retail Penetration & Distribution: Increase in number of active outlets and product range coverage
  • In-Store Execution: Compliance with merchandising and visibility standards
  • Effectively Covered Outlets (ECO): % of outlets visited that generate sales within a period
  • Receivables & Collections: Timely payment collection and account management efficiency

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s Degree (BSc) or HND in Marketing, Business Administration, or related field
  • Minimum of 5+ years FMCG sales experience, with at least 2 years in a leadership/management role
  • Strong understanding of the Nigerian retail landscape (supermarkets, pharmacies, modern trade)
  • Proven track record in driving sales growth, distribution expansion, and team performance
  • Experience in premium or health-focused food products is an added advantage
  • Excellent leadership, negotiation, and stakeholder management skills
  • Strong analytical and strategic thinking abilities
