Medecins Sans Frontieres (MSF) is an International, Private, Non-Governmental, Non-Profit Humanitarian Organization. Our organisation offers assistance to populations in distress, to victims of natural or man-made disasters, to victims of armed conflict, without discrimination irrespective of race, religion, creed or political affiliation. We have been working in Nigeria facilitated by a Memorandum of Understanding between Medecins Sans Frontieres and the Federal Government of Nigeria.
The French Section are at present co-operating with the Federal Ministry of Health, and State and Local government departments of health on various health projects. Our current focus is the VVF/Emergency Obstetrics Project in Jigawa State, the Provision of Primary Health Care in Borno State, and the Nutrition Project in Katsina State with coordination office in Abuja, Nigeria.
We are recruiting to fill the position below:
Job Title: Laundry Worker
Location: Katsina
Responsibilities
According to the protocols of an efficient laundry washing process, carrying out washing and disinfection of hospital linens, blankets, mattresses, professional clothes, etc.
According to the protocols of an efficient sterilization process, carrying out the washing, the drying, the disinfecting, the packaging and the sterilization of the materials and surgical linens, keeping track of the sterilization process and its quality and ensuring a sufficient source of heat and the good functioning of the autoclave
Knowing, applying and making sure that the universal hygiene standards and security rules are respected for medical premises and according to protocols, cleaning and disinfecting health premises allocated to his/her position: patient’s rooms, staff room, storage room, kitchen, bathroom and latrine, doing it on a regular basis and as soon as the situation requires it
Following up and ensuring the quality of the waste triage and emptying out the dustbins as much as necessary to ensure a smooth and efficient quality of care and a safe environment.
Working in close collaboration with the “outside hygiene agent” especially regarding waste elimination
Reporting all relevant information linked to the laundry or designated activities that should be communicated to the line manager
To ensure cleaning and disinfection of MSF duty shoes (Clogs) in circulation.
Follow up and comply with cleaning and disinfection of caretaker’s mats in collaboration with HPCE
Overseeing laundry, ironing, and related housekeeping tasks.
Ensure presence in duty post to address needs when arise, avoid loitering and communicate break or absence accordingly.
Responsible for the timely movement of staff uniform movement (both dirty and clean) from TYH to KS and back.
Ensure the disinfection of the vehicle and container for carrying the dirty uniforms after transportation.
Ensure daily cleaning and disinfection of the laundry machine after each cycle and work area.
Ensure Biweekly deep cleaning of laundry and sterilization unit schedule according to protocol as guided by the IPC Supervisor.
Ensure collaborative effort with Watsan agents to maintain the external premises of the laundry area to always be kept clean and tidy.
Ensure you comply with laundry and sterilization administrative control (circuit) based on IPC protocols.
To be overseeing and sorting out of torn/warn-out/damaged uniforms and report to IPC Sup as early as possible.
Ensure record of linens cycle and laundry consumables items such as chlorine and detergent.
Cleaning and sorting of the uniforms according to numbers or size and cadre for ease of identification.
Ensure a proper record system of laundry machine maintenance and services.
Report machine problem to IPC Sup as soon as possible.
Compliance with idle dress-code in working environment, respecting IPC rules (short head cover, avoidance of long sleeve: at least slightly below elbow, NO rings and wristwatch, NO dangling earrings and artificial hairs).
Perform any other related task assigned by the supervisor/ manager (flexibility).
