Job Title: Finance Officer
Location: Borno
About The Job
The Finance Officer will be responsible for managing financial transactions, maintaining accurate financial records, and ensuring compliance with organizational policies and donor requirements.
He/she will support budgeting, financial reporting, and internal controls to ensure transparency, accountability, and efficient use of resources across all EYN Projects programs in the field office.
The role requires close collaboration with program teams, operations, and management to ensure financial processes support effective project implementation.
Main Responsibilities
The Finance Officer’s primary responsibilities include the following:
Maintain accurate financial records and ensure all transactions are properly documented and filed;
Process payments, including staff salaries, vendor payments, and field expenses, in line with organizational procedures;
Prepare and review payment vouchers, ensuring completeness and accuracy of supporting documents;
Assist in the preparation of budgets, forecasts, and financial plans for projects;
Monitor budget utilization and provide regular updates to program teams and management;
Prepare monthly, quarterly, and annual financial reports in compliance with donor and organizational requirements;
Manage cash flow, including cash counts, bank reconciliations, and cash forecasts;
Ensure compliance with financial policies, procedures, and internal controls;
Support audits by preparing required documentation and responding to audit queries;
Track advances and ensure timely retirement of funds by staff;
Ensure proper coding of expenses in line with chart of accounts and project budgets;
Strengthen financial systems and recommend improvements where necessary;
Support procurement and logistics processes to ensure financial compliance;
Maintain confidentiality and integrity in handling financial information;
Participate in program and finance meetings as required.
Qualification and Experience
Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting, Finance, Business Administration, or related field from a recognized institution;
Professional certification (e.g., ICAN, ACCA) is an added advantage;
3–5 years of relevant experience in finance, preferably in humanitarian or development organizations;
Experience managing donor-funded projects is highly desirable;
Strong understanding of financial controls, accounting principles, and reporting requirements;
Proven experience working in challenging environments with high ethical standards.
Knowledge and Skills:
Strong financial management and accounting skills;
Proficiency in accounting software and Microsoft Excel;
Excellent analytical and problem-solving abilities;
Strong attention to detail and organizational skills;
Ability to work independently and as part of a team;
Good communication and reporting skills;
Ability to handle confidential information with integrity;
Fluency in English (written and spoken); knowledge of Hausa and/or Kanuri is an advantage.
