Job Title: Heavy Equipment Officer

Location: Wawa, Niger

Job Summary

• The Heavy Equipment Mechanic specializes in diagnosing, repairing, and maintaining large machinery—such as excavators, dozers, and trucks—used in construction or mining.
• He performs preventative maintenance, troubleshoot hydraulic/electrical systems, and often travel to job sites to ensure equipment efficiency while adhering to strict safety protocols.

Key Responsibilities

• Preventative Maintenance: Inspect, lubricate, and service engines, transmissions, and hydraulic systems to prevent failures.
• Diagnostics & Repair: Utilize diagnostic software and tools to identify, troubleshoot, and repair faulty components (engines, brakes, electrical, hydraulic).
• Field Service: Travel to site locations to repair broken-down machines, often in varied weather conditions.
• Documentation: Maintain detailed records of repairs, time, parts, and service history.
• Safety Compliance: Adhere to safety regulations, including OSHA and MSHA standards, to prevent workplace hazards.
• Technical Troubleshooting: Use schematics, blueprints, and manuals to diagnose complex issues

Requirements & Qualifications

• Experience: Proven experience as a heavy equipment mechanic or in a similar diesel/heavy-duty role.
• Technical Knowledge: In-depth understanding of diesel engines, hydraulic systems, electrical systems, and power trains.
• Certifications: Often requires a high school diploma or GED, with certification (e.g., Diesel Mechanic) preferred.
• Physical Ability:A bility to lift up to 50 lbs, work in tight spaces, and stand for long periods.
• Tools: Possession of personal tools (often required) and a valid driver’s license for field service.

Key Skills:

• Problem-Solving: Strong mechanical aptitude to identify the root cause of malfunctions.
• Communication: Ability to explain technical repairs to customers and supervisors.
• Computer Proficiency: Using diagnostic laptops/tablets to interpret machine data.
