We are recruiting to fill the position below:

Job Title: Communication and Knowledge Management Advisor

Location: Abuja, Nigeria, with regular travel to other countries.
Contract type: National Contract (Full-time)
Initial contract duration: 3 years with possibility of extension
Expected start date: May 1, 2026.

Overall Project Background

  • The Dutch government, through the Directorate General for International Cooperation (DGIS), is supporting efforts to improve food security and sustainable soil fertility management as part of its sustainable development agenda. In this context, a consortium composed of IFDC, SNV, and Wageningen University (WUR) received funding to implement the Soil Values Program (2024–2033).
  • The program aims to sustainably manage soil fertility and health to increase agricultural productivity while strengthening the resilience of smallholder farmers in the Sahel, including women, men, youth, and other underserved groups, in the face of climate change.
  • Soil Values focuses on three main axes of change:
    • Agroecology
    • Inclusive market development (markets and finance)
    • Enabling environment (institutions and policies)
  • The consortium collaborates with several international research institutions, including IITA, CIFOR-ICRAF, ISRIC, and IWMI, to support program implementation.

Key intervention areas include:

  • Bundling: Developing integrated technological packages combining agronomic and socio-economic solutions for sustainable soil management.
  • Integrate: Promoting participatory landscape and watershed management.
  • Brokering : Facilitating financial mechanisms to support farmers and agro-pastoralists.
  • Convening: Supporting policy dialogue to create an enabling environment for sustainable soil fertility practices.
  • Scoping & learning: Encouraging innovation, learning, and knowledge development throughout the program.
  • In the implementation of the Soil Values program, SNV is responsible for Intervention Area 2: “Integration of Community and Landscape Approaches in Soil Fertility Management.”
  • This intervention aims to harmonize community-based land development practices with integrated watershed management approaches. It focuses on combining local agroecological and hydrological knowledge with nature-based inputs and complementary external solutions to enhance soil fertility and conserve water resources.
  • SNV in Nigeria is currently seeking applicants for a full-time position for Advisor for Communication, Knowledge management on its Soil Value Project.

Job Description

  • Under the overall guidance of the Multi-Country Project Manager, the Communication and Knowledge Management Advisor is responsible for creating and executing effective communication plans that engage and foster various stakeholders, about the project's mission, programs, and impact.
  • The purpose of the role also includes leading and managing all communication activities, lead in developing all communication materials, driving innovation and continuous improvement in communication efforts, and managing communication during times of change or crisis.
  • The goal of the Communication & KM Advisor is to enhance the organization's reputation, maintain brand across, raise awareness, and promote stakeholder engagement to support the mission and success of SNV. 
  • Contribute to the overall project learning agenda through advising the SNV Soil Values project Management Unit and taking coordinating role in the collection/development of evidence and knowledge products.

Duties & Responsibilities
The key responsibilities of the Communication and Knowledge Management Advisor will include the following Key Responsibility:

Communication:

  • Support all communication activities with country teams and Soil Values communication specialists;
  • Support/contribute to build and implement Soil Values internal communication plan;
  • Support/contribute, in close collaboration with the MCPM, the compilation and editing of material for Soil Values annual highlights and program reports;
  • Support the development and implementation of a content management strategy for the Soil Values program, including a digital strategy for social media channels (track records, newsletters, and other digital communication products) in collaboration with the others communication specialists.
  • Ensure the proper use of the Soil Values brand identity and policy and values by the team;
  • Ensure visibility of program results, innovations, and partnerships across national, regional, and global platforms.
  • Support the preparation of communication outputs for donor reporting and external stakeholders;
  • Coordinate communication efforts with consortium partners (IFDC, WUR) and relevant stakeholders.

Knowledge Management and Learning:

  • Collaborate with the consortium communication specialists and contribute to the implementation of Soil Value Knowledge Management strategy;
  • Support countries teams – Integrate (including GESI) to develop knowledge, learnings (good practices, case studies, and lessons learned) and share with the Communication Lead of Soil Values;
  • Facilitate knowledge capture, documentation, and sharing of best practices, lessons learned, and innovations;
  • Establish mechanisms for internal learning, reflection, and adaptive management within the project;
  • Initiate strategic partnerships with projects to support the implementation of Knowledge Management initiatives with clear linkages to improving performance, promoting innovations, scaling up success, and influencing policy;
  • Develop sustainable approaches to content generation, capture, and information to promote a culture of continuous knowledge development and sharing;
  • Identify indicators and monitoring methods to track results and impacts of Knowledge Management activities and coordinate knowledge sharing-related monitoring & evaluation and reporting efforts of Soil Values.

Qualifications

  • Master’s Degree in Communication, Knowledge Management, Journalism, Public Policy, International Development, or related fields; or Bachelor’s plus substantial leadership experience.
  • Minimum 5 years of relevant experience in communication and/or Knowledge Management;
  • Demonstrated success translating field results for policy and practitioner audiences.
  • Strong command of digital ecosystems (web/SharePoint/WordPress, analytics, SEO, social, digital asset management and Artificial Intelligence (Adobe CC, Caneva).
  • Excellent writing/editing; multicultural fluency is an advantage;
  • Experience in Agriculture technologies, Soil Fertility Management is an asset;
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to build strong relationships with stakeholders;
  • Experience in multicultural & multilingual environments;
  • Fluency in speaking and writing English and French;
  • Ability and willingness to travel in the others West Africa countries.
