We are recruiting to fill the position below:
Job Title: Project Associate – Community Engagement and Risk Communication
Job I.D: 20044 Location: Damaturu - Yobe
Contract type: Special Short Term Graded (Up to 9 months)
Initial Contract Duration: 6 months
Grade: G-5
Responsibilities
Assist in the implementation and monitoring of Community Engagement and Risk Communication project activities.
Retrieve, compile, summarize, analyse, and present information/data on Community Engagement and Risk Communication project topics.
Monitor budget; verify availability of funds; obtain necessary approval and update budget related information.
Act as focal point for administrative coordination of project implementation, involving extensive liaison with diverse organizational units and external parties to initiate requests, obtain necessary clearances, process and follow-up on administrative actions, etc.
Draft status reports, identifying shortfalls in delivery, bring them to the attention of the supervisor and suggest remedial actions.
Draft correspondence on project issues; prepare and update reports, briefing notes, graphics, statistical tables, presentation and other forms of documentation.
Respond to complex information requests and inquiries; set up and maintain files/records; organize meetings, workshops and training sessions;
Participate in meetings and conferences; assist in coordinating implementation activities with local authorities, partners, United Nation agencies, intergovernmental and non-governmental organizations, donors and other stakeholders relevant to the project.
Assist in monitoring work of implementing partners and report non-compliances to the supervisor.
Provides guidance/training to new/junior staff.
Perform other related duties as assigned.
Required Qualifications and Experience
Education:
School diploma with five years of relevant experience; or,
Bachelor’s Degree in in Public Health, Social and Behavioural Sciences, Environmental Science, Education, International Relations, Development Studies, or related fields from an accredited academic institution with two years of relevant professional experience
Experience:
Experience in liaising with governmental authorities, national/international institutions, United Nations agencies and non-governmental organizations;
Experience in working with migrants, refugees, internally displaced persons, victims of trafficking and other vulnerable groups; and,
Prior work experience with international humanitarian organizations, non-government or government institutions/organization in a multi-cultural setting is an advantage.
Skills:
Ability to coordinate and guide hygiene promotion and community engagement assessments, including participatory community appraisals, behavioral analysis, and identification of appropriate risk‑reduction strategies.
Ability to ensure adherence to RCCE and hygiene promotion standards, ensuring activities are culturally appropriate and technically aligned with WASH guidance (e.g., SBCC, IPC practices).
Ability to develop, review, and validate community‑facing materials, hygiene promotion plans, messaging strategies, IEC packages, and monitoring tools, ensuring quality and coherence across operational areas.
Ability to support the design and coordination of hygiene promotion strategies, ensuring alignment with project timelines, technical guidance, and community feedback, in collaboration with the WASH Officer, the field teams and partners.
Ability to monitor hygiene promotion activities across multiple sites, ensuring quality implementation, accurate messaging, and compliance with technical protocols (e.g., safe water, sanitation behavior, IPC).
Ability to design, coordinate, and operationalize strategies for community committees, including selection criteria, roles and responsibilities, engagement methodologies, accountability mechanisms, and long‑term sustainability plans.
Capacity to ensure inclusive representation (women, men, youth, elderly, persons with disabilities, marginalized groups) and promote committee ownership of hygiene practices and community-led WASH improvements.
Ability to coordinate regular field visits to assess behavioral uptake, identify community needs and risks, and ensure systematic documentation and follow‑up.
Ability to develop and maintain community engagement and behavior‑change monitoring systems, consolidating feedback from outreach teams, volunteers, partners, and community committees.
Strong understanding of procurement processes and ability to plan and coordinate procurement of IEC materials, and community‑engagement supplies while ensuring compliance and timely delivery.
Ability to coordinate with local authorities, health departments, CSOs, and community leaders, ensuring harmonized hygiene promotion approaches and strong stakeholder participation.
Ability to organize and deliver training on hygiene promotion methodologies, RCCE standards, community‑based surveillance, and participatory approaches.
Ability to monitor hygiene promotion activities, track progress, and recommend improvements to enhance public health outcomes.
Strong understanding of cross‑cutting themes (AAP, GBV, environment), with the ability to integrate these principles into hygiene promotion and community engagement activities.
Strong skills in communication, organization, and team leadership, with the ability to work independently and meet deadlines under pressure.
Good level of computer literacy; personal commitment, efficiency, flexibility, drive for results.
Knowledge of SAP.
