Job Title: Engineer - Technology & Product Development for Improved Cookstoves

Job Summary
We are seeking an Engineer – Technology & Product Development for improved cookstoves to support the design, testing, and local production of innovative cooking technologies.
The Engineer will play a key role in developing and improving clean cooking technologies, including briquetting systems, combustion and gasification stoves, and heat-retention cooking solutions.
The position combines engineering development, applied research, and production planning to ensure that products are technically robust, locally manufacturable, and optimized for large-scale deployment in Nigeria.
Key Responsibilities
Product Development & Engineering:
Design, prototype, and optimize improved cookstove technologies, including gasification systems.
Support the development of briquetting technologies and biomass fuel solutions.
Conduct technical testing and performance evaluation of stove and fuel systems.
Improve stove efficiency, emissions performance, durability, and usability.
Document engineering designs, test results, and product specifications.
Production Engineering:
Support the local manufacturing and assembly of improved cookstoves at the ACSL production facility in Kano.
Coordinate and support the planning and development of infrastructure for the local production of polymer parts, particularly for heat retention boxes and related components.
Work closely with production teams to ensure efficient, scalable manufacturing processes.
Identify opportunities to improve production efficiency, product quality, and cost structure.
Research & Innovation:
Conduct applied research on biomass combustion, gasification technologies, and alternative cooking fuels.
Collaborate with international engineering teams and partners to improve product performance.
Test new materials, components, and technologies suitable for local production.
Contribute to the development of next-generation clean cooking products.
Technical Coordination:
Work closely with production, operations, and field teams to ensure products perform reliably in real-world conditions.
Support training of technical staff and technicians.
Provide technical input for product improvements and new product concepts.
Qualifications and Experience
University Degree in Mechanical Engineering, Energy Engineering, Chemical Engineering, or a related technical field.
Minimum of 3 years of relevant engineering experience, preferably in product development, manufacturing, or energy technologies.
Experience with combustion systems, biomass technologies, or stove engineering is highly desirable.
Practical experience with prototyping, testing, and manufacturing processes.
Familiarity with polymer components, injection molding, or local manufacturing systems is an advantage.
Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
Ability to work both hands-on in workshops and analytically in design and testing.
Business-fluent English is required.
Willingness to relocate to Kano and work in a fast-growing production environment.
Strong motivation to contribute to climate protection and sustainable development.
Reporting Structure:
You will report directly to the General Manager of atmosfair Climate & Sustainability Ltd. and maintain a dotted line to the management of atmosfair gGmbH, based in Berlin, Germany.
