The Confederation of African Football (CAF) was founded in 1957 by four nations: Egypt, Sudan, Ethiopia and South Africa. As the administrative body of the region, CAF manages competitions, offers technical and administrative training courses while actively fostering the promotion and practice of football. The Confederation organizes championships such as the Africa Cup of Nations (CAN or AFCON), the most popular competition. It maintains very close links with FIFA in coordinating tournaments for different events such as the World Cup, Youth and Women competitions and the Olympic Games Football Tournaments.
We are recruiting to fill the position below:
Job Title: Senior Manager, Media Relations
Location: Cairo, Egypt
Responsibilities
Strategy Development and Execution
Develop and implement a comprehensive media relations strategy in line with the objectives of CAF to strengthen the organisation’s reputation, increase visibility of competitions and programs, and ensure consistent messaging across international, regional, and national media platforms.
Media Relations Management:
Lead media management during Competitions, Events and announcements by coordinating press conferences, media accreditation, interviews, and press/media briefings while maintaining strong relationships with journalists, broadcasters, and digital media partners.
Strengthening stakeholder trust and visibility by ensuring CAF’s activities and initiatives are clearly articulated and effectively promote
Communications Planning and Alignment:
Lead the development and execution of annual and competition-specific communications/media plans, ensuring alignment between media relations activities and the organisation’s broader marketing, commercial, and stakeholder engagement strategies.
Develop and implement a global CAF Media Engagement Plan
Develop and maintain centralized messaging frameworks, factsheets, and talking points that define CAF’s narrative
Develop, refine, and validate speeches, media statements/media advisories on behalf of senior management
Initiate ideas that amplify the work of CAF Departments including, but not limited to, Development and Women’s Football
Collaborate with Digital, TV and other departments to deliver and enhance storytelling across CAF programmes and initiatives
Lead cross departmental planning to ensure unified voice and messaging.
Reputation Management and Communications Oversight:
Manage proactive and reactive communications, including crisis response, official statements, and media monitoring, ensuring accurate and timely information is delivered to the public while safeguarding the organisation’s brand and credibility.
Media Policy and Protocol Management:
Develop and implement media policies, protocols, and guidelines for competitions, events, and official engagements to ensure professional, consistent, and well-coordinated interactions between the organisation, Member Associations, and the media.
Team Leadership and Capacity Building:
Manage and mentor the media relations team, providing strategic direction, performance oversight, and professional development to ensure high-quality media engagement and effective communications delivery across all events and initiatives
Develop Daily/ Monthly/ Quarterly Media Monitoring Reports and prepare daily summary for the Director of Communications and the Senior Management.
Requirements (Profile)
Bachelor's or equivalent degree in Communications, Media Relations, Sports, Digital Media or Journalism.
At least Eight (8) years’ experience in a similar role in an international organization
Excellent written and spoken communications skills
Good understanding of global football environment
High level of proficiency with Microsoft Office and other modern IT tools.
Fluent in English and/or French language both written and spoken is a must; command of any of the other CAF official languages (English, French, or Arabic) is an asset.
Ability to foster long term relationships with stakeholders
Critical thinking, problem-solving skills, and ability to work in a fast-paced environment.
Ability to work under pressure.
