Job Title: Finance Manager
Location: Abuja (FCT)
Employment Type: Full-time
Job Summary
The Finance Manager is responsible for the complete financial management, from day-to-day bookkeeping and client invoicing through to monthly management accounts, payroll processing, tax filings, and financial reporting to the Founder and Chair.
This is a critical operational role. The firm's financial health, regulatory tax compliance, and ability to make informed commercial decisions all depend on accurate, timely financial management.
The Finance Manager works closely with the firm's external ICAN Certified accountants on Value Added Tax registration, annual returns, and statutory filings.
Role Responsibilities
Invoicing and Revenue Management
Issue all client invoices in Nigerian Naira and United States Dollar through Zoho Books or QuickBooks accurately, on the agreed schedule, and in compliance with Value Added Tax requirements
Monitor accounts receivable, follow up on outstanding invoices, maintain an aged debtor report, and escalate overdue accounts to the Founder and Chair
Record all fee receipts and match payments to invoices
Manage the client trust account: receive and disburse client funds in accordance with the firm's AntiMoneyLaundering policies and Nigerian Bar Association Rules of Professional Conduct
Accounts Payable and Expense Management:
Process all vendor invoices and firm expense claims: verifying approval, coding to the correct cost centre, and processing payment
Manage petty cash and the firm's corporate card programme
Reconcile all bank accounts monthly: operating account, United States Dollar account, client trust account, and reserve account
Payroll and Statutory Compliance:
Process monthly payroll through BambooHR or Workpay (and the likes), including PayAsYou Earn deductions, pension contributions, and Health Maintenance Organisation premiums
Prepare and submit monthly Pay-As-You-Earn returns to the Federal Capital Territory Internal Revenue Service
Prepare and submit monthly Value Added Tax returns to the Federal Inland Revenue Service
Liaise with the firm's external accountants on annual tax filings, Value Added Tax registration compliance, and statutory financial statements
Maintain Withholding Tax credit note records: issuing credit notes to clients and collecting credit notes from vendors
Reporting and Analysis:
Prepare monthly management accounts: profit and loss, cash flow, and key financial metrics for presentation to the Founder and Chair
Maintain the firm's chart of accounts and financial records to an audit-ready standard
Prepare annual budget in collaboration with the Founder and Chair and monitor actual performance against budget monthly.
Experience / Qualification
Minimum 3 years of finance or accounting experience in Nigeria
Institute of Chartered Accountants of Nigeria (ICAN) qualification strongly preferred or demonstrably on track toward ICAN membership
Proficiency in Zoho Books or QuickBooks experience with Nigerian payroll systems (BambooHR or Workpay) is an advantage
Strong working knowledge of Nigerian tax obligations, such as Value Added Tax, Withholding Tax, Pay-As-You-Earn, and Pension Reform Act 2014
Experience managing client trust accounts in a legal practice environment is a significant advantage
