Job Title: Deputy Managing Director

Location: Victoria Island, Lagos
Employment Type: Full-time.

Position Overview

  • Our client is seeking a highly motivated Real Estate Associate to join our dynamic team.
  • The successful candidate will assist with a wide variety of real estate transactions, including acquisitions, dispositions, leasing, managing, and development.
  • This role offers an opportunity to work closely with the CEO & Board of Directors in a fast-paced environment.
  • Deputy Managing Director (DMD) acts as the second-in-command, bridging the gap between high-level strategic vision and day-to-day operational execution.
  • This role is vital for maintaining the momentum of property developments and investment portfolios while the Managing Director (MD) focuses on external stakeholder relations and long-term board goals.

Core Responsibilities

  • Operational Oversight: Managing the day-to-day business functions, including construction progress, property management, and maintenance.
  • Strategic Growth: Assisting the MD in formulating short- and medium-term strategies, identifying new market leads, and expanding the company's footprint.
  • Financial & Budgetary Control: Overseeing budget preparation, fund raising, optimizing expenses, and managing financial reporting to ensure project profitability.
  • Leadership & Staff Management: Mentoring department heads, overseeing recruitment, and fostering a productive organizational culture.
  • External Representation: Acting as the primary deputy in meetings with local authorities, communities, and key partners when the MD is unavailable.

Responsibilities

  • Reporting to the Managing Director, the Deputy Managing Director (DMD) provides support to the Managing Director to ensure that Company achieves its business objectives and creates an environment that promotes staff commitment to the achievement of the organizational vision, mission, and strategy.
  • Has a global role all over the activities of the company. He will support, manage and develop sales, financial and operational activities.
  • Participate tothe formulation of the short and medium term Group strategy; to set up correspondent goals and progress plan; to ensure implementation providing solutions to issues
  • Provide strategic advice to the boardso that they will have accurate view of the market and the company’s future.
  • To evaluate and improve the operation and financial performances; to research and identify opportunities; to oversee budget preparation and to maintain budgets and optimize expenses
  • To oversee day-to-dayoperations and supporting services activities; to ensure employees work productively and develop professionalism
  • To oversee the maintenance, the protection and the security of the properties, assets and the employees
  • To oversee the interaction with unions, the recruitment and the training of new employees and the employee assessment process
  • To initiate actions to support and develop a good social climate
  • To interact with local communities, local and provincial authorities for all matters involving the company
  • To prepare activity’s report for upper management and to oversee financial reporting

Key Skills & Requirements

  • Educational Background: A Degree in Real Estate Management, Business Administration, or related fields; an MBA is often preferred for executive roles.
  • Industry Experience: Typically requires 10+ years in real estate, construction, or asset management.
  • Technical/Financial Proficiency: Knowledge of real estate management and a strong grasp of real estate economics.
  • Soft Skills: High-level negotiation, crisis management, and the ability to influence diverse stakeholders. Entrepreneurial mindset with outstanding organization and leadership skills.

Desired Skills and Experience:

  • Bachelor's Degree in an engineering field ofstudy from a recognised university
  • Minimum 10 years of professional experience in a similar senior management role (DMD, Operations Director, Project Director)
  • Minimum 10years of professional experience in the finance, insurance, banking,
  • Demonstrable experience in developing strategic and business plans
  • Strong understanding of corporate finance and measures of performance
  • Organisational and leadership skills
  • Excellent communication, interpersonal and presentation skills
  • Outstanding analytical and problem-solving abilities
  • Experience navigating / relations with real estate.
