Job Summary

  • The Transition Finance and Advisory (TFA), Nigeria role is a senior role responsible for acting as the primary sustainable finance and transition advisory point of contact for bankers and clients in the market. The role translates global frameworks, thematic insights and bank capabilities into credible client positioning and executable financing pathways. The role focuses on origination, client engagement and content creation with a focus on driving commercial impact.
  • This role will work in close partnership with Coverage and Risk teams, brings sector insight, disciplined judgement, and cross‑border connectivity to deliver sustainable growth across the Transition Finance and Advisory portfolio. 

Key Outcomes and Responsibilities
Support origination and execution of Sustainable and Transition Finance transactions:

  • Sustainable Finance (SF) Products’ origination (including RFPs), with a focus on:
  • Increasing awareness of SF offerings and benefits among underpenetrated clients (solution replicability).
  • Winning new businesses where Environmental,Social and Governance (ESG) can differentiate the bank (e.g. SF coordinator role) vs. competing primarily on balance sheet size and pricing, such as ESG structured notes).
  • Identifying client opportunities for distribution of the bank’s sustainable finance assets.
  • SF product execution / structuring, where agreed with Products and the bank is SF coordinator. Focus on expansion of our sustainability-linked framework to consider additional / novel Key Performance Indicators.
  • Work with targeted  clients on Sustainable Finance (SF) / Transition frameworks when clear monetisation opportunities 
  • Work with the Global Transition Technologies teams to originate Energy Transition transactions across our markets.

Three areas of focus:

  • Capital partnerships: preferred origination partner to large energy-transition funds and sovereign platforms (through partnerships)
  • Platform story: package Energy Transition as a repeatable consolidation as platform creation is becoming more common in this next phase of fragmented energy transition market consolidation
  • Partner to governments on capital mobilization (incl. Sponsors): decarbonization, energy, and minerals security with increased state co-funding and de-risking.
  • Contribute to content-led client engagements with clear monetisation opportunities

Key Responsibilities

  • Leverage content and expertise to contribute to high‑quality client engagements that lead to tangible revenue outcomes, including direct contribution to transition and sustainable finance transactions, origination support, and expansion of client wallet share.
  • Thought leadership and proprietary content development
  • Develop understanding of market specific SF developments , and how this will impact our clients and client insights.
  • Develop sector-specific content covering ESG thematic / trends / market dynamics, peer benchmarking, product benchmarking / recent transactions / case studies, producing analysis and content around ESG risks and controversies impacting resilience, and investor confidence 2) incorporating Transition tech (e.g. SAF) and Capital Structure considerations, leveraging relevant thematics.
  • Support brand building and profiling: participate in relevant industry initiatives to gather relevant market intelligence, demonstrate thought leadership, and maintain client connectivity.
  • Strengthen governance, risk discipline, and role clarity: act as first line accountable leader for conduct, reputational, and advisory risks within the mandate. Ensure teams operate within defined frameworks, avoid greenwashing risk, and maintain clear boundaries with Coverage, Products, and regulatory functions.
  • Adhere to values & conduct expectations (non-negotiable): by role-modelling ethical conduct, risk discipline, client suitability, inclusion, and enterprise first leadership.

Measure of Success

  • Direct contribution to Sustainable Finance (SF) & Transition Finance (TF)  transactions: the team will work towards a target direct dollar contribution to SF / TF transactions.  
  • Client income contribution: the team will work towards a dollar client income contribution amount tagged to an agreed list of clients that have been identified as having a strong opportunity for increased share of wallet. 
  • High-quality client engagements: the team will work towards a specified number of target client engagements to be completed within an agreed time period. These client engagements will be focused on where there is a real opportunity to drive commercial impact. 
  • Marketing activities: the team will work towards producing an agreed amount of thought leadership pieces of content and participation in key industry forums.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s Degree (or equivalent) in Finance, Economics, Engineering, Environmental Studies or a related discipline, with strong grounding in corporate finance and capital markets.
  • Advanced knowledge of sustainable and transition finance concepts, market standards and emerging practices, gained through professional experience or formal training. 

Key Experiences:

  • Experience in sustainable finance, ESG or transition advisory across sectors and markets, with the ability to translate policy, transition and ESG developments into financially and credit-relevant insights.
  • Track record of developing scalable sector narratives, analytical insights or flagship content, and of shaping frameworks or methodologies used across regions.
  • Experience supporting complex or novel sustainable or transition finance situations, influencing senior stakeholders across Product, Risk, Credit, CSO and Coverage in matrixed environments
