Job Summary

• A Hair Braider is a specialist in tension-based styling and protective techniques. In many regions, this is considered a craft that may have different certification requirements than full cosmetology.

Core Responsibilities

• Protective Styling: Designing styles that protect the natural hair from environmental damage, such as box braids, cornrows, and goddess braids.
• Extension Integration: Seamlessly blending synthetic or human hair into natural hair using "feed-in" or "knotless" methods.
• Intricate Parting: Using precision sectioning (diamond, honeycomb, or triangle) to create a clean aesthetic.
• Tension Management: Balancing the tightness of a braid to ensure longevity without causing scalp damage or hair loss.
• Natural Hair Care: Guiding clients on how to moisturize and maintain their scalp while wearing long-term braided styles.

Key Qualifications

• Finger Dexterity: Extraordinary hand strength and the ability to maintain consistent tension for several hours.
• Cultural Knowledge: Understanding the history and specific techniques of traditional braiding patterns.
• Patience: The ability to focus on repetitive, detailed work during appointments that can last an entire workday.

Salary
N50,000 - N150,000 per month.
