Job Title: Adire Making Tutor for Adolescents and Young People
We are seeking a talented and passionate Adire tutor to join our team, specializing in providing hands-on sewing and tailoring instruction to adolescents and young children.
This role involves teaching basic sewing skills, garment construction techniques, and fostering creativity and confidence in young learners.
The ideal candidate will be AYP with the required skill to make visually appealing textiles and materials, excellent communication skills, and a genuine interest in nurturing the creativity and skills of other young individuals. Past beneficiaries of the AYP Hub, Mushin, are especially encouraged to attend.
Responsibilities
Sewing Instruction:
Develop and implement age-appropriate Adire curriculum and lesson plans for adolescents and young children, covering basic to intermediate Adire techniques.
Teach fundamental skills for creating visually appealing materials using Adire
Demonstrate proper use of Adire tools and equipment, ensuring safety and proper maintenance.
Garment Construction:
Guide students through the process of garment color selection and pattern design.
Fabric Selection and Care:
Educate students on different types of fabrics, their characteristics, and suitability for various projects.
Discuss fabric care and maintenance techniques, including washing, pressing, and storing fabric to prolong its lifespan.
Creative Projects and Design:
Inspire creativity and individuality through individualized and personalized Adire projects and design challenges.
Encourage students to explore their personal style and express themselves through fabric and color selection, and customization.
Mentorship and Support:
Provide guidance, encouragement, and constructive feedback to students, helping them build confidence and develop their sewing skills.
Foster a supportive and inclusive learning environment where all students feel valued and empowered to learn and grow.
Qualifications
Related vocational certifications if applicable.
SSCE minimum
Experience teaching adolescents and young people.
Competencies
Excellent interpersonal and communication skills with the ability to engage and connect with young people.
A deep understanding of tailoring, sewing, and garment construction techniques.
Ability to demonstrate and teach proper use of tailoring tools and machines to their students.
Ability to design and deliver effective lessons to their students.
Patience, empathy, and a genuine passion for working with adolescents and young people.
Other Requirements
Willingness to undergo background checks and any necessary certifications related to working with children.
Availability to work flexible hours, including evenings and weekends, to accommodate class schedules and events
