We are recruiting to fill the position below:

Job Title: Team Lead, Underwriting

Location: Lagos

Responsibilities

• Appraise risk proposed for cover and determine level of exposure
• Based on the exposure, determine premium rates and policy terms
• Advise the client (insured or intermediary) via quotation slips stating premiums and terms of acceptance
• Discuss and negotiate terms with the broker
• Refer risks for Survey/Inspection/Superintending where necessary
• Review Survey reports and recommendations and insert warranties on the policy based on the report where necessary
• Review Loss ratio prior to renewal and advise client of any proposed changes to the policy terms and conditions
• Review certificates, policy documents and endorsements to ensure that appropriate policy terms and conditions have been incorporated
• Review and approve transactions inputted in the Underwriting Software
• Review to ensure transactions are uploaded on NIID
• Advise on any additional measures that may be required to minimize the impact and frequency of loss
• Regular monitoring of Portfolio for growth and profitability
• Sensitization of the company on adverse portfolio and areas for improvement
• Work with Survey and Inspections unit to ensure that client complies with risk improvement recommendations
• Review and submit relevant periodic reports assigned (Regulatory, Compliance and Internal Reports
• Monitor to ensure that renewal listings and renewal notices are circulated within the time frame and meet the required standard and processes
• Prepare regular reports on outstanding renewals and sensitize the responsible staff
• Track Delivery of all documents sent to client and ensure it was received by client
• Escalate all complaints to team lead for effective resolution
• Conduct Regular trainings for team members and where required advise on external trainings

Requirements

• Minimum of a Bachelor’s Degree or Higher Diploma in Insurance, Risk
• Management or related field from a reputable Educational Institution
• Minimum of five (5) years relevant experience in Insurance industry
• A professional qualification of Insurance or progress to Associate level (CIIN or CII) may be added advantage
• A good knowledge of General insurance policies and their applicable terms and conditions
• A good knowledge of Insurance regulatory policies, laws and practices as well as market demands in line with economy is essential
• Strong communications and negotiation skills
• Proficiency in use of Microsoft Office Tools (Excel, Word, PowerPoint and Outlook)
