Flutterwave was founded on the principle that every African must be able to participate and thrive in the global economy. To achieve this objective, we have built a trusted payment infrastructure that allows consumers and businesses (African and International) make and receive payments in a convenient border-less manner.
Flutterwave is scaling its global FX and Remittance engine to deliver on ambitious targets. As part of this growth, we are establishing two distinct but deeply collaborative treasury pillars.
The Head of FX Sales & Bank Treasurer owns the front office: sourcing liquidity, originating high-volume FX deals, and representing Flutterwave's Microfinance Bank (MFB) licence to Nigerian regulators.
This is a Lagos-based, boots-on-the-ground role for a seasoned professional with unmatched market networks, regulatory credibility, and the tenacity to source USD in one of Africa's most complex FX environments. You will be the first call for major corporates and high-net-worth clients — and the face of Flutterwave's MFB to the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN).
Key Responsibilities
Liquidity Sourcing & FX Origination:
Leverage a deep personal network of Tier 1 Bank CEOs, Corporate Treasurers, and Regulators to source USD/NGN liquidity in a constrained market, ensuring Flutterwave is always funded and competitive.
Drive high-volume FX OTC transactions across corporate, institutional, and high-net-worth segments, positioning Flutterwave as the preferred FX partner in the Nigerian market.
Monitor parallel market dynamics, competitor pricing, and liquidity corridors in real time, providing actionable intelligence to senior leadership and the Group Treasurer.
Develop and manage a pipeline of FX sourcing relationships — including banks, corporate treasuries, and specialist desks — that provide reliable access to liquidity in tight market conditions.
Bank Treasurership (MFB Licence):
Serve as the designated Treasurer for Flutterwave's Microfinance Bank licence, with full accountability for compliance with CBN liquidity ratios, capital adequacy requirements, and statutory reporting obligations.
Lead regulatory engagement with the CBN and other financial authorities to safeguard operational licences and preserve Flutterwave's freedom to operate in Nigeria.
Ensure all MFB-related treasury operations — including funding, settlement, and position management — are conducted within approved regulatory and internal risk frameworks.
Partner with the Legal and Compliance team to respond to regulatory inquiries, policy changes, and licence-related submissions in a timely and accurate manner.
Market Intelligence & Pricing Support:
Provide the Group Treasurer and senior leadership with real-time intelligence on NGN/USD rate movements, regulatory shifts, and market sentiment.
Collaborate with the Group Treasurer to establish corridor pricing inputs, ensuring that front-office deal origination is anchored to accurate, data-driven margin assumptions.
Contribute to the development of pricing rules for remittance products, new FX corridors, and concierge merchant structures.
Stakeholder & Relationship Management:
Represent Flutterwave at the highest levels of the Nigerian banking and regulatory community, building long-term relationships that translate into commercial and operational advantage.
Partner closely with the Group Treasurer to ensure that the deals you bring in are processed, tracked, and reported with full margin visibility.
Collaborate with the Expansion, Finance, and Product teams to support new bank onboarding, corridor launches, and merchant treasury structures.
Present regularly to the CFO and Executive Leadership on FX market conditions, liquidity pipeline, MFB compliance status, and revenue performance.
Requirements
Required:
Bachelor's degree in Finance, Economics, or a related discipline required; Master's degree or professional certifications (e.g., CFA, ACI Dealing Certificate) are an advantage.
Minimum 12 years of experience in the Nigerian financial sector, with a track record in Tier 1 Banks, specialist FX desks, or senior fintech treasury roles.
Proven experience as a designated Bank Treasurer or in a senior FX Sales / OTC origination role, with demonstrable knowledge of MFB regulatory requirements and CBN frameworks.
A well-established, high-calibre network of bank executives, corporate treasurers, and regulators that can be activated immediately to source liquidity.
Deep, practical knowledge of the Nigerian parallel and official FX markets, including NFEM, I&E window dynamics, and CBN policy evolution.
Strong understanding of remittance corridors, settlement mechanics, and cross-border payment infrastructure in the African context.
Demonstrated ability to operate with autonomy and urgency in high-pressure, liquidity-constrained environments.
Preferred:
Experience working within a fintech or payments company in a treasury or FX capacity.
Familiarity with Treasury Management Systems (e.g., Kyriba, FIS) and automated FX reporting tools.
Existing relationships with CBN senior officials and familiarity with CBN licence management processes.
