Job Title: Head of Procurement
Location: Lagos
Job Summary
Our client is seeking a Head of Procurement to lead the procurement and supply chain functions critical to rig operations and oilfield servicing activities. This role is within a dynamic oilfield services environment focused on delivering timely, cost-effective, and compliant acquisition of goods and services.
The Head of Procurement will develop strategic sourcing plans, manage vendor relationships, negotiate contracts, and ensure adherence to industry regulations and company policies.
The position requires overseeing end-to-end procurement operations while collaborating closely with cross-functional teams to maintain seamless supply chain support. Candidates can expect to provide leadership to a procurement team, drive continuous process improvements, and mitigate procurement risks in a fast-paced, safety-conscious setting.
Responsibilities
Develop and execute Our Client’s procurement strategy to align with operational goals and project timelines, ensuring cost-effective and timely acquisition of goods and services
Forecast procurement requirements and establish detailed procurement plans to support rig operations and drilling activities
Build and maintain a robust vendor network for drilling equipment, rig supplies, spare parts, logistics, and technical services, ensuring high standards of quality and compliance
Lead contract negotiations to secure favorable terms, pricing, and service delivery while managing supplier contracts to ensure adherence to agreed conditions
Oversee the end-to-end procurement process, including purchase requisitions, RFQs, bid evaluations, purchase order issuance, delivery coordination, and payment processing
Collaborate cross-functionally with Operations, Engineering, Finance, and Logistics teams to ensure seamless supply chain support and monitor inventory levels effectively
Enforce strict compliance with Our Client’s procurement policies, industry regulations, and ethical sourcing standards, including anti-bribery and anti-corruption measures
Identify and mitigate procurement risks such as supply delays, cost fluctuations, and supplier dependency through proactive risk management strategies
Provide strong leadership and mentorship to the procurement team, fostering a culture of accountability, integrity, and continuous improvement in procurement processes and systems
Qualifications
Required Qualifications:
Bachelor’s degree in Supply Chain Management, Engineering, Business Administration, or a related field
10-15 years of experience in procurement and supply chain management, including at least 5 years in a senior leadership role within the oilfield servicing or upstream oil and gas sector
Strong knowledge of procurement best practices specific to oil and gas rig operations and well services
Proven expertise in strategic sourcing, vendor management, contract negotiation, and compliance with industry regulations
In-depth understanding of supply chain management, incoterms, and logistics within oilfield servicing environments
Demonstrated financial and commercial acumen with the ability to evaluate bids, manage budgets, and optimize cost savings
Proficiency in ERP and procurement software such as SAP, Oracle, or Microsoft Dynamics
Excellent leadership, communication, and stakeholder management skills to effectively lead and develop procurement teams
Preferred Qualifications
Master’s degree, MBA, or MSc in Supply Chain, Logistics, Business Administration, or a related discipline
Professional certifications such as CIPS, Chartered Institute of Procurement and Supply, CPSM Certified Professional in Supply Management, or PMP, Project Management Professional, for project-related procurement
Experience driving continuous improvement initiatives in procurement processes and systems
Strong commitment to governance, ethical sourcing, and compliance with anti-bribery and anti-corruption policies.
