Job Title: Workshop Supervisor
Location: Calaro Extension Estate, Uwet, Akamkpa Local Government Area - Cross River

Job Purpose
The Workshop Supervisor is responsible for overseeing the daily operations of the company’s mechanical workshop, ensuring effective maintenance, repair, and availability of light vehicles, heavy-duty trucks, agricultural machinery, and Heavy Earth Moving Machinery (HEMM).
The role ensures high safety standards, quality workmanship, cost efficiency, and optimal equipment uptime in support of plantation operations.
Supervise daily workshop activities including preventive, corrective, and breakdown maintenance of:
Light-duty vehicles (cars, pickups, vans)
Heavy-duty trucks
Agricultural machinery (tractors)
HEMM machines such as bulldozers, excavators, graders, and loaders
Plan, schedule, and assign work to Auto Mechanics, Auto Electricians, Vulcanizers, Welders, and other technicians to ensure timely completion of tasks.
Ensure all maintenance and repairs are carried out in accordance with manufacturers’ specifications and industry best practices.
Monitor equipment condition, diagnose faults, and recommend appropriate repair or replacement actions.
Oversee fabrication, welding, and modification works required to support field and factory operations.
Environment, Health & Safety (EHS):
Enforce strict adherence to safety regulations, workplace procedures, and company EHS policies within the workshop.
Conduct regular safety briefings, toolbox talks, and on-the-job safety supervision.
Ensure proper use of Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) by all workshop staff and workers.
Identify hazards, report unsafe conditions, and implement corrective actions promptly.
Ensure proper handling, storage, and disposal of oils, fuels, chemicals, and scrap materials in an environmentally responsible manner.
People Management & Leadership:
Supervise, mentor, and motivate workshop staff and workers to achieve high performance and discipline.
Support training and skill development of technicians, including apprentices and junior staff and workers.
Conduct performance monitoring and provide input into staff appraisals.
Manage attendance, workload distribution, and discipline within the workshop.
Planning, Reporting & Cost Control:
Prepare and maintain maintenance schedules, job cards, service records, and equipment history.
Monitor spare parts usage, request replenishment, and ensure proper inventory control.
Assist in cost control by minimizing downtime, reducing rework, and ensuring efficient use of materials and manpower.
Prepare daily, weekly, and monthly workshop performance and maintenance reports.
Liaise with procurement and stores on spare parts specification and availability.
Collaboration & Continuous Improvement:
Work closely with operations, transportation and mill teams to align maintenance activities with operational priorities.
Recommend improvements to maintenance practices, tools, and workshop layout to enhance efficiency.
Participate in audits, inspections, and continuous improvement initiatives.
Key Performance Indicators (KPIS)
Percentage of fleet and machinery available for operations.
Rate of Compliance with preventive maintenance schedules.
Mean Time to Repair (MTTR):Average time taken to resolve breakdowns.
Workshop Safety Performance:Number of accidents, incidents, or safety violations.
Quality of Repairs:Reduction in repeat failures and rework.
Cost Control:Maintenance cost per equipment/vehicle compared to budget.
Downtime Reduction:Reduction in unplanned equipment downtime.
Spare Parts Management:Accuracy of inventory records and reduction in emergency purchases.
Team Productivity:Jobs completed per technician within planned timelines.
Reporting Timeliness and Accuracy:Submission of clear and accurate maintenance reports.
Requirements
Educational Qualifications:
Minimum of OND / HND / B.Sc in Mechanical Engineering, Automotive Engineering, or a related technical discipline.
Trade Test Certificate (Grade I or II) or equivalent technical certification is an added advantage.
Relevant safety or mechanical certifications will be an added advantage.
Understanding of preventive maintenance systems and breakdown management.
Knowledge of workshop tools, diagnostic equipment, and maintenance standards.
Familiarity with spare parts management and inventory control.
Sound understanding of EHS standards applicable to mechanical workshops.
Salary
N170,000 - N200,000 / month.
