Assess the structure, functionality, and effectiveness of regional surveillance systems in selected WCA countries, including malaria resistance surveillance in Nigeria (drug, diagnostic, and vector surveillance)
Examine cross-border coordination mechanisms, including data sharing, joint response, and alignment with regional and international frameworks
Generate strategic and actionable recommendations to inform efforts to enhance regional surveillance
Scope of Work
The consultant will focus on:
Map and assess key regional surveillance systems, database platforms and coordination mechanisms (e.g. WAHO WHO Afro / UNICEF / NTD), to determine their mandates, functions, coverage, interoperability, and relative appropriateness for Malaria Consortium’s use, as well as their alignment with WHO guidelines, IDSR, IHR (2005), RCSDC strategies, and WAHO priorities. This will include a focused aassessment of malaria surveillance in Nigeria (drug, diagnostic and vector surveillance), and how these data are generated, reported, and used within the national surveillance system.
Examining cross-border surveillance coordination, including existing protocols for data sharing, alert systems, and joint response mechanisms in selected MC focus countries.
Engaging with ministries of health, national public health institutes, and regional actors to validate key findings and assess the feasibility and relevance of proposed recommendations.

Brief summary of malaria resistance surveillance systems in Nigeria to inform policy and advocacy work.
