Jaza is a solar energy start-up working to power Sub-Saharan Africa. We build solar-powered shops which charge batteries customers use to power their homes. In 2022, we achieved over 1.5 million battery swaps, providing approximately 186,000 people access to clean, affordable energy. We employ women from each community (known as Jaza Stars) to run the service, empowering our team to become leaders, entrepreneurs and drivers of economic growth within their communities. We’ve already successfully entered the Nigerian market, piloted several sites here and will grow to hundreds of locations over the next year. To support this expansion, we’re planning to hire over 200 people over the next 6 months.

We are recruiting to fill the position below:

Job Title: Validation Team Lead

Location: Ibadan, Oyo

Description

  • The Validation Team Lead is responsible for managing a team of Site Validators in the site validation process across assigned regions.
  • This role involves coordinating community data collection efforts, overseeing team performance, ensuring validation quality standards, and maintaining a high first-pass yield rate for validated sites.
  • The position plays a critical role in identifying suitable communities for Jaza's expansion that align with the company's approval criteria. 

Accountabiltiies

  • Own and manage the site validation process for the region, ensuring all team members follow standardized procedures and meet quality standards 
  • Ensure the team completes the targeted number of site validations according to the expansion timeline
  •  Maintain First Pass Yield (FPY) of ≥80% for site validations, minimizing the need for rework 
  • Manage team staffing levels to ensure 100% of required validator roles are filled
  • Provide leadership, training, and performance management for the validation team 

Roles & Responsibilities 
Team Management and Development: 

  • Recruit, train, and mentor Site Validators to ensure team competency and performance
  •  Assign and track team member responsibilities for site validations in assigned regions
  •  Maintain appropriate team staffing levels to meet validation targets 
  • Conduct regular performance reviews and provide constructive feedback to team members 
  • Identify training needs and coordinate skill development for validators 

Site Validation Management: 

  • Develop and implement site validation plans based on expansion targets 
  • Coordinate field visits and validator assignments to maximize efficiency 
  • Review validation data and reports for quality and accuracy 
  • Ensure that validators are following standardized procedures and protocols
  •  Monitor team progress against validation targets and adjust strategies as needed 

Quality Assurance: 

  • Maintain FPY of ≥80% for site validations by implementing quality control measures 
  • Review and approve site validation reports before submission to leadership
  •  Identify reasons for rework and implement corrective measures to improve quality
  •  Conduct periodic validation audits to ensure compliance with standards 
  • Document and standardize best practices for site validation 

Reporting and Communication: 

  • Provide regular updates to QA Expansion/Expansion Lead on validation progress and challenges 
  • Present validation data and insights during expansion team meetings 
  • Document and report key metrics, including sites validated, FPY, and rework rates
  • Escalate critical issues that may impact validation timelines or quality. 
  • Contribute to the refinement of validation criteria and processes.

Key performance Indicators (KPIs)

  • Team completion rate 100% (percentage of required roles filled) 
  • Number of sites validated vs. targets 
  • First Pass Yield (FPY) ≥80% (percentage of validations that meet quality standards on first attempt) 
  • Rework rate <20%.
