In terms of power generation, we brought in the first high efficiency combined emergency power station in 2001 for Abuja. The 22 MW Emergency Power Station in Abuja guaranteed the Power Holding Company of Nigeria (PHCN) the supply of 15MW. While in operation, the power station successfully supplied uninterrupted power to the Power Holding Company of Nigeria (formerly National Electric Power Authority) to serve a dedicated distribution network within Abuja and its environs.

Job Description

• Reporting to plant Manager on all EHS related reports, activities and non-compliances – where found.
• Observes work in progress, ensures that proper safety equipment is worn and procedures are followed.
• Makes recommendations for corrections and follow up to ensure that violations have been corrected.
• Preparing safety reports on regular basis.
• Conduct risk assessments, aspect/impact study and HACCP study where needed.
• Coordinate with senior management of the department on matters of safety, health, and environment.
• Guide staff on matters of safety, health and environment.
• Housekeeping management
• To ensure the availability of PPE’s and other safety equipment’s for firefighting & other hazardous Operations
• To ensure and maintain compliance of health, safety and environmental policy.
• Incident/accident investigation, reporting and preventing
• Follow the instructions from Plant Manager in line with company policy.
• Develops policies, plans and procedures to minimize risks in workplace.
• Insures preparation of Safety Manuals, training outlines and employee instructions for work deemed to have recognized hazards.
• Conducts or provides for employee safety training, including classroom lectures, demonstrations or hands-on instruction.
• Compiles, analyzes and interprets accident, injury and lost time statistics reports for the Safety Committee.
• Implementation of LOTO and other work permit system at plant. Performing daily, weekly and monthly safety inspections.
• Well versed in basic IT and CMMS skills.
• Well versed with developing standard LOTO procedures train and get implemented in an effective manner.
• Well versed with all EHS and Safety related requirement when at work.
• Well versed and be able to develop SOPs / procedures with Emergency responses in the event of a Fire or other such incidents / accident.
• Well versed in preparing EHS related Incident Reports and RCAs.
• Well versed with co-ordinated work practices amongst all Maintenance Sections.
• Well versed with the requirement of Order and Discipline at the Plant having good control over his sub-ordinates.
• Well versed with preparing all routine and special EHS related reports, both routine and special, whenever required.
• Well versed with all local EHS related regulations and be able to develop and implement SOPs in this respect.
• Well versed with the safe working in confined space and be able to develop and implement JSA and / or THA both area-wise and job-wise.
• Well versed in categorizing the Hazardous and non-hazardous wastes and develop and implement SOPs for their safe disposal.
• Be able to liaisoning, whenever required, with EHS related Govt. Authorities and submit reports where required.
• Prepare Presentations and Bulletins to increase awareness among the employees.
• Be able to check or get checked basic hygiene and quality of Food and Water.

Job Qualification

• Degree or Equivalent Diploma in relevant discipline of Engineering.
• Certified and having done courses relevant to his field of work.
• Min. 6-8 years experience of working in Power Plant of similar type and minimum 3 years in similar position.
