Job Title: Civil / Structural Engineer
Location: Delta
Employment type: Full-time
Job Summary
We are seeking an experienced Civil/Structural Engineer to lead the design, execution, and supervision of all civil works required to bring this vision to life.
This is a hands-on leadership role requiring strong technical expertise, project management capability, and the ability to deliver high-quality infrastructure in a challenging environment.
The Role
This is a senior technical role responsible for managing all civil and structural engineering components of the project.
You will oversee land clearing, drainage systems, irrigation infrastructure, and construction of processing and warehouse facilities.
You will be expected to translate designs into reality, ensuring quality, efficiency, and adherence to timelines and budgets.
This role requires someone who can manage people, coordinate contractors, and ensure disciplined execution on-site.
What You Will Be Responsible For
You will lead and manage all civil and structural works, including:
Planning, supervising, and executing land clearing and site preparation
Designing and overseeing construction of drainage, irrigation, and water management systems
Managing the construction of rice mill facilities, warehouses, storage units, and auxiliary structures
Ensuring all works comply with approved engineering designs, specifications, and regulatory standards
Coordinating contractors, consultants, and site teams to ensure efficient workflow and delivery
Developing and implementing project schedules, work plans, and resource allocation frameworks
Monitoring project progress, identifying risks, and resolving technical and operational challenges
Enforcing health, safety, and environmental (HSE) standards across all construction activities
Ensuring cost control, quality assurance, and timely completion of all infrastructure components
Preparing technical reports, site documentation, and progress updates for management
What You Will Be Responsible For:
You will lead and manage all civil and structural works, taking ownership of both design integrity and construction execution.
You will plan, supervise, and execute land clearing, earthworks, and site preparation, ensuring efficient sequencing of activities, optimal equipment utilisation, and minimal rework. This includes improving work rates, managing fuel efficiency, and ensuring cost-effective delivery per hectare.
You will design and oversee the construction of drainage, irrigation, and water management systems, ensuring they are hydraulically efficient, resilient to flooding, and practical to maintain under delta conditions.
You will lead the design and construction of key infrastructure, including rice mills, warehouses, storage units, and auxiliary structures. This will require strong attention to structural integrity, material optimisation, and efficient layout planning.
You will continuously apply value engineering and design optimisation, reviewing designs, materials, and construction methods to:
Reduce unnecessary cost
Improve constructability
Optimise resource utilisation
Enhance long-term durability and performance
You will coordinate contractors, consultants, and site teams, ensuring alignment between engineering designs and field execution. You will enforce discipline, maintain workflow efficiency, and ensure accountability across all workstreams.
You will support procurement and contractor management, including material sourcing, vendor selection, and cost benchmarking. You will actively challenge inefficiencies and ensure that project costs remain controlled without compromising quality.
You will develop and implement project schedules, work plans, and resource allocation frameworks, ensuring timely delivery of all infrastructure components.
You will monitor project progress, identify risks early, and resolve technical and operational challenges under field conditions.
You will enforce health, safety, and environmental (HSE) standards, ensuring all works comply with engineering specifications, regulatory requirements, and safety expectations.
You will prepare technical reports, site documentation, and progress updates, providing management with clear visibility on performance, risks, and optimisation opportunities.
Construction and Structural Delivery Expectations
Candidates must demonstrate the ability to translate engineering designs into fully built infrastructure under real site conditions.
This includes proven experience in:
Delivering industrial and agricultural structures from foundation to completion
Designing and constructing foundations in soft, waterlogged, or unstable soils
Executing drainage systems, canals, culverts, and embankments
Constructing warehouses and processing facilities that are durable and fit-for-purpose
Managing construction processes, materials, labour, and site logistics effectively
Who This Role Is For:
We are looking for a technically strong, execution-focused engineer who understands how to deliver real infrastructure projects, not just design them.
You should demonstrate:
Proven experience managing large-scale civil or agricultural infrastructure projects
Strong ability to lead teams, supervise contractors, and coordinate multiple workstreams
Practical knowledge of earthworks, drainage systems, structural construction, and rural infrastructure development
A strong understanding of the relationship between design decisions, cost, and operational performance
Demonstrated ability to manage people, processes, timelines, and budgets effectively
Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to make decisions under real field conditions
Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills
High level of discipline, accountability, and attention to detail
You are not just an engineer. You are someone who can design, build, optimise, and deliver infrastructure that performs.
Qualifications and Requirements
Candidates should possess a B.Sc. or HND in Civil Engineering, Structural Engineering, or a closely related field, with a minimum of ten (10) years of relevant professional experience and a proven track record of successfully delivering similar infrastructure projects.
Registration with the Council for the Regulation of Engineering in Nigeria (COREN) is required. Membership of professional bodies such as the Nigerian Society of Engineers (NSE) will be considered an added advantage.
Candidates must demonstrate:
Strong experience in earthworks, drainage systems, irrigation infrastructure, and structural construction
Experience delivering projects in challenging terrains, including flood-prone or delta environments
Proven ability in cost control, budgeting, and BOQ management
Experience in value engineering and design optimisation
Strong understanding of construction methods, material optimisation, and buildability
Ability to manage contractors, procurement processes, and site execution effectively
Proficiency in engineering design tools (e.g. AutoCAD or similar)
Experience in agricultural or agro-industrial infrastructure projects is highly desirable.
