Job Title: Heavy Duty Truck Driver

Job Summary
The Heavy Duty Truck Driver will be responsible for the safe, efficient, and timely transportation of construction materials, equipment, and supplies to and from project sites, depots, and supplier locations.
The role demands a professional driver with a strong safety culture, excellent knowledge of road regulations, and a proactive approach to vehicle care and maintenance reporting.
Key Responsibilities
Safe Vehicle Operation:
Operate heavy-duty trucks (tipper trucks, flatbed trucks, articulated vehicles, or concrete mixers as applicable) safely and in full compliance with Nigerian road traffic laws and company driving policies.
Material & Equipment Transportation:
Transport construction materials (aggregates, sand, cement, steel, timber), heavy machinery, and equipment to and from project sites, warehouses, and supplier depots as directed.
Pre-Trip & Post-Trip Inspections:
Conduct thorough pre-trip and post-trip vehicle inspections. Check tyres, brakes, oil levels, fuel, lights, and general vehicle condition. Report defects, faults, or concerns promptly to the maintenance team.
Route Planning & Compliance:
Plan efficient routes to minimise journey time and fuel usage. Adhere to load limits, axle weight regulations, and permit requirements for oversized or overweight loads.
Delivery Documentation:
Accurately complete all delivery notes, waybills, fuel logs, and trip sheets. Obtain proper signatures and receipts at delivery and return points.
Vehicle Cleanliness & Care:
Keep the assigned vehicle clean internally and externally. Report any damage, incidents, or accidents promptly, regardless of severity.
Fuel & Cost Management:
Monitor fuel consumption and report any unusual fuel usage. Practice fuel-efficient driving techniques to reduce operational costs.
Health, Safety & Environment:
Comply with all HSE policies, including the use of personal protective equipment (PPE) when loading, offloading, or working on construction sites. Never drive under fatigue or impairment.
Qualifications & Requirements
Education:
Minimum of WAEC / NECO or equivalent. Ability to read, write, and communicate in English at a functional level.
License:
Valid Nigerian Driver's Licence (Class E or Class F heavy-duty/commercial vehicle) is mandatory. Expired licences will not be considered.
Professional Certification:
A valid roadworthiness certificate for operated vehicle class and experience with FRSC/VIO compliance is required.
Experience:
Minimum of 5 years of verifiable experience driving heavy duty trucks (10-ton capacity and above) in a construction, mining, logistics, or industrial environment. Tipper truck or articulated vehicle experience is preferred.
Medical Fitness:
Must be medically fit with no colour blindness, uncorrected visual impairment, or health condition that could affect safe driving. A medical fitness certificate may be required.
Location:
Abuja, FCT. Must be willing to undertake interstate haulage assignments as directed.
Core Competencies & Personal Attributes:
Excellent knowledge of Nigerian road traffic laws, regulations, and permit requirements for heavy haulage.
A strong safety culture always puts road safety, load security, and personal protection first.
Reliable and punctual with a strong sense of responsibility for assigned vehicles and loads.
Ability to navigate to unfamiliar locations using maps, GPS, or verbal directions.
Basic mechanical awareness, able to identify common vehicle faults and perform minor checks and adjustments.
Honest, disciplined, and professional in conduct, respectful of company policies and site rules.
Physically fit and able to withstand long hours of driving and working in outdoor, dusty construction environments.
