Job Title: Information Technology (IT) Manager

Job Purpose
The Information Technology Manager is responsible for planning, implementing, managing, and securing the hospital’s IT infrastructure and digital systems to support clinical services, administrative operations, patient safety, data integrity, and regulatory compliance.
The role ensures reliable system availability, cybersecurity, and the effective use of technology to enhance patient care and operational efficiency.
Key Responsibilities
IT Infrastructure & Systems Management:
Oversee the installation, maintenance, and optimisation of hospital IT infrastructure, including servers, networks, hardware, and software.
Ensure high availability and performance of Hospital Information Systems (HIS), Electronic Medical Records (EMR/EHR), laboratory, radiology, pharmacy, and billing systems.
Manage system upgrades, patches, and integrations with minimal downtime.
Ensure proper backup, disaster recovery, and business continuity plans are in place and tested.
Information Security & Data Protection:
Develop and enforce IT security policies, access controls, and data protection standards.
Safeguard patient and hospital data in compliance with data protection regulations and healthcare standards.
Monitor and respond to cybersecurity threats, breaches, and system vulnerabilities.
Ensure secure management of user access, passwords, and system privileges.
Clinical & Operational Support:
Provide technical support to clinical and non-clinical users, ensuring prompt resolution of IT issues.
Collaborate with clinical teams to optimise system workflows and improve service delivery.
Ensure availability and reliability of critical systems during emergencies and peak operations.
Support digital health initiatives, telemedicine, and automation projects.
IT Governance, Compliance & Documentation:
Ensure IT operations comply with hospital policies, accreditation standards, and regulatory requirements.
Maintain accurate documentation of IT assets, licences, configurations, and SOPs.
Support internal and external audits related to IT, data security, and systems usage.
Manage vendor relationships, contracts, and service level agreements (SLAs).
Budgeting & Asset Management:
Prepare and manage the IT budget, ensuring cost-effective procurement and utilisation of resources.
Oversee IT asset lifecycle management, including inventory, maintenance, and replacement.
Evaluate and recommend technology solutions that support hospital strategy and growth.
Team Leadership & Capacity Building:
Supervise, coach, and evaluate IT team members.
Identify training needs and ensure continuous professional development of the IT team.
Promote adherence to IT policies, service standards, and ethical conduct.
Strategy & Continuous Improvement:
Develop and implement the hospital’s IT strategy in alignment with organisational goals.
Identify opportunities for digitisation, system improvements, and process automation.
Monitor emerging healthcare technologies and recommend relevant innovations.
Key Performance Indicators (KPI)
System uptime and availability
Incident response and resolution time
User satisfaction scores
Cybersecurity incidents and breach prevention
Compliance and audit findings
IT budget adherence.
Qualifications & Experience
Bachelor’s degree in computer science, information technology, or a related field (a master’s degree is an advantage).
Professional certifications (e.g., ITIL, CISSP, CISA, Microsoft, Cisco) are desirable.
Minimum of 7 years of IT experience, with 3+ years in a managerial role, preferably in a healthcare setting.
Strong understanding of hospital systems and healthcare workflows.
