Position Purpose / Job Brief
The Technical Helper provides essential foundational support to the plant's operations and maintenance teams.
The role facilitates efficient execution of maintenance tasks, housekeeping, tool management, and basic preventive maintenance activities, enabling qualified technicians to focus on higher-complexity work.
The Technical Helper is an entry-level developmental role with a structured learning pathway toward full technician qualification.
Key Responsibilities & Accountabilities
Prepare and organize work areas prior to maintenance activities, ensuring all required tools, materials, spare parts, and consumables are available and accounted for.
Assist qualified mechanical and electrical technicians during preventive and corrective maintenance tasks, including equipment cleaning, dismantling support, and reassembly assistance.
Perform routine preventive maintenance tasks as assigned and directly supervised: filter cleaning and replacement, lubrication top-ups, greasing of rotating equipment, and visual inspections.
Manage and maintain tool accountability: issue, track, and return tools to the tool store after each job; report damaged or missing tools immediately.
Maintain rigorous 5S housekeeping standards across the engine hall, workshop, and all assigned plant areas throughout each shift.
Handle, transport, and correctly store materials, spare parts, lubricants, and chemicals in accordance with material safety data sheets (MSDS) and plant procedures.
Support material handling tasks, including controlled lifting with appropriate equipment under the supervision of a qualified rigger or technician.
Adhere strictly to all personal protective equipment (PPE) requirements, site HSE rules, and permit-to-work procedures at all times.
Report any observed hazards, unsafe conditions, or equipment defects to the supervising technician immediately.
Actively participate in structured on-the-job training (OJT), toolbox talks, and competency development programmes.
Academic & Professional Qualifications
Minimum of a Technical Diploma in Mechanical Technology, Electrical Technology, or a related trade discipline from a recognized technical institution.
Minimum of two (2) years of practical experience in an industrial or power plant environment, preferably with exposure to both mechanical and electrical maintenance activities.
Basic proficiency in common hand and power tool identification, safe use, and care.
Fundamental knowledge of workplace safety, PPE requirements, and basic housekeeping standards.
Ability to read and follow illustrated maintenance procedures and checklists.
Physically fit and capable of sustained manual work in a high-temperature industrial environment.
