Position Purpose / Job Brief

• The Major Overhaul Technical Helper is a specialized support role deployed exclusively during high-intensity planned engine overhaul events at 12,000-hour, 24,000-hour, and 48,000-hour service intervals.
• The role requires a combination of physical capability, precision in component handling, strict consumables management, and the ability to sustain high performance throughout compressed outage schedules under experienced technician supervision.

Key Responsibilities & Accountabilities

• Assist lead overhaul technicians throughout all phases of major engine overhaul activities, including preparation, dismantling, inspection, cleaning, reassembly, and commissioning support.
• Perform controlled dismantling and reassembly tasks as directed: piston pulling and reinsertion, cylinder liner extraction and fitment, cylinder head removal and refitting, and turbocharger component handling.
• Operate specialized overhaul tooling including hydraulic jacks, hydraulic bolt tensioners, torque multipliers, and specialist pulling rigs, under direct supervision and with full compliance to torque specifications.
• Execute precision component cleaning activities using approved solvents, brushes, and ultrasonic cleaning equipment; present cleaned components to the QC inspector for sign-off.
• Conduct rigorous consumables management: receive, track, verify, and account for all gaskets, O-rings, seals, retaining hardware, and overhaul kits from the stores; return all unused items with quantity reconciliation.
• Support rigging, slinging, and controlled lifting of heavy engine components (pistons, liners, crankshaft components) using overhead cranes and chain blocks in strict compliance with rigging plans.
• Maintain worksite Organisation throughout the outage: colour-coded parts segregation, component labelling, tool accountability, and continuous housekeeping of the work zone.
• Adhere to daily overhaul progress milestones and report any task delays or scope deviations to the Lead Technician immediately.
• Participate in pre-job safety briefings, toolbox talks, and shift handover meetings throughout the overhaul period.
• Comply unconditionally with all PTW, LOTO, elevated work, and overhaul-specific HSE requirements.

Academic & Professional Qualifications

• Technical Diploma or equivalent qualification in Mechanical Engineering, Plant Maintenance, or a related discipline from a recognized technical institution.
• Minimum of two (2) years of directly relevant experience, with demonstrated exposure to both mechanical and electrical overhaul activities in an industrial or power generation environment.
• Practical knowledge of rigging, slinging, and safe lifting practices for heavy mechanical components.
• Competency in hydraulic tensioning tools, torque multiplier operation, and precision torque application.
• Familiarity with heavy engine component cleaning techniques and quality inspection preparation processes.
• Valid rigging or slinging competency certification is strongly preferred.
• Physically capable of sustained high-intensity work during extended outage shifts.
