Job Purpose
The Operations Geophysicist is accountable for the safe, efficient, and cost-effective planning and execution of seismic acquisition operations in support of hydrocarbon maturation and asset development objectives.
The role delivers high-quality seismic data through strong HSSE&SP leadership, technical excellence, contractor management, and effective collaboration with subsurface, asset, and functional teams, thereby underpinning key investment decisions and sustained business value.
Responsibilities
Seismic Operations Execution:
Execute onshore (land/swamp) and offshore (shallow and deep water) 3D/4D seismic acquisition projects involving high HSSE&SP risks and high-value contracts
Provide daily supervision of large, multi-disciplinary seismic crews operating in remote, challenging terrain and complex offshore environments
Lead daily operational, technical, and HSSE&SP meetings; participate in mobilisations, audits, and technical assurance activities
Monitor survey progress, maintain accurate statistics, ensure cost control, and deliver timely internal and external performance reports
Project & Technical Leadership:
Develop Project Initiation Plans and Project Execution Plans for seismic acquisition projects
Lead seismic survey design using appropriate tools, existing data, and global technical networks to deliver fit-for-purpose solutions
Verify that surveys meet defined technical, cost, schedule, and HSSE&SP requirements; identify and implement improvement opportunities
Review contractor performance, capture lessons learned, and recommend improvements for future contracts
Contract & Stakeholder Management;
Act as Contract Holder for seismic acquisition operations
Manage QA/QC company representatives to ensure full contractor compliance with contractual obligations
Interface effectively with partners, regulators, host communities, and internal stakeholders to ensure uninterrupted operations
HSSE&SP Leadership:
Demonstrate visible safety leadership and reinforce Goal Zero behaviours during field engagements
Lead risk assessments and workshops including NTR, HAZID, road and marine transport, and explosives handling
Ensure contractor compliance with HSSE&SP plans, environmental management plans, and regulatory requirements
Participate in HSSE inspections, audits, and incident investigations, ensuring timely close out of actions
Data Delivery & Governance:
Ensure compliance with seismic project management protocols including reporting, data handover, archiving, and close out documentation
Deliver high-quality seismic data on time through robust QA/QC and technical assurance processes
Support DEP compliance activities and self-assessments for seismic acquisition projects
Capability Development:
Coach and mentor junior geophysicists through knowledge sharing, best practices, and structured work processes
Promote continuous learning, technical excellence, and lateral knowledge transfer across teams
Job Dimension:
Accountable for the end-to-end delivery of geophysical projects, with primary focus on seismic acquisition and defined contributions to Seismic Processing and Quantitative Interpretation (QI) project delivery. Responsibilities include project definition, tendering, contracting, execution support, and close out, ensuring technical quality, HSE compliance, regulatory adherence, schedule integrity, and cost discipline. Operates independently and within integrated subsurface and business teams.
Manages multimillion dollar geophysical investments on behalf of Renaissance, prioritizing a dynamic portfolio based on business demand, value realization, execution risk, and team capacity.
Responsible for the development and execution of robust contracting and procurement strategies, including fit-for-purpose scopes, contract documentation, and commercial evaluations that fully consider market capacity, contractor capability, and risk/opportunity profiles. Supports post-award contract delivery through structured contract management and value optimization.
Maintains effective internal and external interfaces, including regulatory bodies, governmental authorities, host communities, and traditional institutions, as well as internal stakeholders across Exploration, New Business, CP, SE&SP, Health, Security, Logistics, Marine, Aviation, Finance, and subsurface technical disciplines.
Requirements
Minimum of Bachelor's Degree in Geophysics or equivalent discipline with at least 9 years relevant work experience.
Significant experience in one or more of the following will be an added advantage.
Significant geophysical experience with strong focus on seismic acquisition. Experience in Seismic Processing and Quantitative Interpretation is a plus
Proven experience in onshore (land/swamp) and marine seismic operations and supervision
Demonstrated expertise in seismic survey design, acquisition planning, and QA/QC
