Job Title: Senior Backend Engineer (Real Estate Fintech)

Location: Lagos
Employment Type: Contract

Job Summary

• We are seeking an experienced and highly skilled Senior Backend Engineer to design, develop, and maintain scalable, secure, and high-performing backend systems that power our products and services.
• The ideal candidate will have strong expertise in backend architecture, API development, database design, cloud infrastructure, and software engineering best practices.
• As a senior member of the engineering team, you will play a key role in system design, code quality, technical mentorship, and driving engineering excellence across projects.

Key Responsibilities
Backend Development & Architecture:

• Design, develop, test, and maintain scalable backend applications, services, and APIs
• Build robust microservices and distributed systems capable of handling high traffic and large datasets
• Develop secure RESTful APIs, GraphQL endpoints, and backend integrations with third-party systems
• Architect backend systems for performance, scalability, reliability, and maintainability
• Optimize existing applications for speed, efficiency, and fault tolerance

Database & Data Management:

• Design and manage relational and NoSQL databases
• Develop efficient database schemas, queries, and indexing strategies
• Monitor database performance and implement optimization strategies
• Ensure data integrity, backup, recovery, and security standards are maintained

Cloud Infrastructure & DevOps Collaboration:

• Deploy and manage applications in cloud environments (AWS, GCP, Azure)
• Work closely with DevOps teams on CI/CD pipelines, containerization, and infrastructure automation
• Implement monitoring, logging, and alerting systems for backend services
• Support system availability, uptime, and disaster recovery planning

Code Quality & Security:

• Write clean, maintainable, and well-documented code following engineering standards
• Conduct code reviews and enforce best practices in software development
• Implement security best practices including authentication, authorization, encryption, and secure data handling
• Identify and resolve performance bottlenecks, bugs, and system vulnerabilities

Leadership & Collaboration:

• Mentor junior and mid-level engineers through code reviews and technical guidance
• Participate in architecture discussions and technical decision-making
• Collaborate with frontend engineers, product managers, designers, QA, and other stakeholders
• Translate business requirements into scalable technical solutions

Key Performance Indicators (KPIs)

• API/system uptime and reliability
• Code quality and deployment success rate
• Bug resolution turnaround time
• System performance and scalability improvements
• Delivery of engineering milestones within timelines
• Mentorship and team technical growth

Required Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or related field (or equivalent practical experience)
• Minimum of 5–8 years of professional backend engineering experience
• Strong proficiency in one or more backend languages such as Python, Java, Node.js, Go, or C#
• Strong experience with relational databases such asPostgreSQLorMySQL, and NoSQL databases like MongoDB or Redis
• Experience with cloud platforms such as Amazon Web Services, Google Cloud, or Microsoft Azure
• Hands-on experience with containerization tools like Docker and orchestration tools such as Kubernetes

Preferred Qualifications:

• Experience building microservices and event-driven architectures
• Experience in fintech, e-commerce, SaaS, or high-growth technology environments
• Knowledge of message queues such as Apache Kafka or RabbitMQ
• Familiarity with infrastructure as code tools like Terraform
