Medical Director / CEO at The National Ear Care Centre (NECC), Kaduna

The National Ear Care Centre, Kaduna is a very young parastatal of the Federal Ministry of Health which came into existence in 1999. Its birth was in recognition by the World Health Organization (WHO) of the very high Prevalence of hearing impairment in Africa, (Nigeria inclusive) and its subsequent encouragement of countries to set up institutions that would, among other things: Spearhead the fight against deafness and hearing impairment through diagnosis and treatment, and Carry out and coordinate research into the Prevalence of deafness and hearing impairment in the country.

The Centre, for logistic problems, started its operations from facilities provided by the Lagos University Teaching Hospital, Lagos, in 1999. Relocation to Kaduna started in 2002 and was concluded by October, 2003. Since then, the Centre has continued to operate in facilities provided by the Kaduna State government, both for its administrative and clinical services. The centre was established with the following mandate: To lead in the diagnosis and treatment of Ear, Nose, and Throat diseases in the country; Conduct and coordinate research into the prevalence of deafness in Nigeria; and to train manpower for the ENT specialty. However, the centre has, in spite of all odds, strived to, as much as possible, meet these challenges of fulfilling its mandate.

The Management of the National Ear Care Centre, Kaduna, invites applications from interested and suitably qualified candidates for the position below:

Responsibilities

• The Medical Director is the Head / Chief Executive of the Institution.
• He is accountable to the Board of Management and the Honourable Minister of State for Health & Social Welfare.
• The Medical Director is charged with the responsibility of executing policies and matters affecting the day-to-day management of the hospital.

Requirements
Interested candidates must have the following qualifications:

• Candidate must be a Medical or Dental Practitioner registered with the Medical and Dental Council of Nigeria (MDCN) with not less than Twelve (12) years post-qualification experience;
• Candidate must possess a current practising licence from MDCN;
• Candidate must be a Fellow of either the National Postgraduate Medical College of Nigeria or the West African Postgraduate Medical College, or equivalent, recognized by the MDCN;
• Candidate must have been an Ear, Nose, and Throat (ENT) Consultant for a minimum of five (5) years;
• Candidate must be medically fit (attach evidence);
• Candidate must be of proven good character and integrity;
• Evidence of Medical Research is an added advantage.
• Administrative qualification and experience are added advantages.
• Knowledge of Information and Communication Technology (ICT) is an added advantage.
• Attraction of funded grants by an individual candidate is an added advantage.

Salary and Allowance
Salary and Allowances will be in accordance with the Public Service Salary Structure for this category of Officer.
