We are recruiting to fill the position below:
Job Title: HSE Officer
Location: Ikoyi, Lagos
Employment Type: Full-time
Description
We are looking for a proactive HSE Officer who will own health, safety and environmental compliance across our operations.
You will conduct audits, manage incidents, ensure regulatory compliance, deliver training and drive continuous safety improvement.
But most importantly, you will take initiative — identifying risks before they become incidents, suggesting improvements, and driving them forward.
You won't wait to be told what to do; you'll see what needs doing and do it.
Core Responsibilties
HSE Auditing & Monitoring:
Conduct scheduled and unannounced HSE audits across all facilities — kitchens, guest areas, staff areas, maintenance areas.
Inspect fire safety systems, emergency equipment, electrical safety, hazard identification and control measures.
Monitor food safety and HACCP compliance in kitchen and food preparation areas.
Check that all safety signage, PPE and emergency equipment are in place, functional and accessible.
Compliance & Regulatory Management:
Maintain awareness of all applicable HSE regulations — OSHA, fire safety codes, building regulations, NAFDAC, labour standards.
Ensure all HSE documentation is up to date — permits, certificates, training records, inspection logs.
Liaise with regulatory bodies during inspections and ensure we remain compliant at all times.
Report on HSE status to management regularly — identifying compliance gaps and recommending fixes.
Incident Management & Investigation:
Log all incidents, near-misses and unsafe conditions in the incident tracking system.
Investigate incidents — determining root cause and recommending corrective actions.
Ensure incident corrective actions are implemented and tracked to completion.
Identify patterns and trends — flagging recurring issues that need systemic fixes.
HSE Training & Awareness:
Deliver HSE induction training to all new staff — covering site-specific hazards, emergency procedures and safe practices.
Conduct toolbox talks and safety briefings to keep HSE visible and top-of-mind.
Ensure all staff have current training certifications (First Aid, food safety, etc.) and maintain training records.
Lead or support fire drills, emergency response tests and evacuation procedures.
Initiative & Continuous Improvement — Key Part of This Role:
Spot safety gaps and hazards before they cause incidents — don't wait to be told. Raise them, investigate and recommend fixes.
Suggest process improvements that reduce risk, improve efficiency or enhance safety culture.
Drive adoption of better safety practices — whether that's improved signage, better hazard controls or smarter procedures.
Benchmark our HSE performance against best practice and identify where we can do better.
Build relationships with teams across operations — understanding their challenges and helping them work safely.
What You Bring
Experience:
3+ years in HSE or safety compliance roles
Proven track record conducting audits and managing incidents
Experience in hospitality, facilities or food service is valued
Experience with food safety (HACCP) is an advantage
Understanding of HSE regulations applicable in Nigeria
Cross-industry experience is welcome — HSE principles are universal.
Skills & Mindset:
Self-motivated — you identify what needs doing and do it
Clear communicator — you explain safety concepts so people understand and follow
Detail-oriented — you catch things others miss
Initiative-taker — you suggest improvements and drive them forward
Problem-solver — when you spot an issue, you think about how to fix it
Proactive — you don't wait for incidents to happen; you prevent them.
Certifications & Training:
HSE qualification (NEBOSH, IOSH) is valued but not required
Food Safety or HACCP training is an advantage
First Aid certification is expected
Willingness to pursue further qualifications as needed.
What We Offer
Competitive salary based on experience
Opportunity to grow into more responsibility
A role where your initiative is valued and visible
A workplace that takes safety seriously
