The Head of Finance is responsible for overseeing the overall financial management and accounting operations of the hotel to ensure financial stability, profitability, compliance, and operational efficiency
The role provides strategic financial leadership through budgeting, financial planning, reporting, internal controls, revenue monitoring, and cost management in line with hospitality industry standards.
The ideal candidate must possess strong financial expertise, leadership capabilities, analytical skills, and extensive experience in hotel or hospitality finance operations.
Role Responsibilities
Financial Strategy and Management:
Provide strategic financial leadership and support to hotel management.
Develop and implement financial strategies aligned with organizational objectives.
Advise management on financial planning, investment opportunities, and operational performance.
Support business growth through sound financial analysis and recommendations.
Financial Reporting and Analysis:
Oversee preparation of daily, weekly, monthly, and annual financial reports.
Ensure timely preparation of profit and loss statements, balance sheets, and cash flow reports.
Analyze financial performance and provide actionable insights to management.
Monitor financial KPIs including revenue, occupancy performance, ADR, RevPAR, GOP, and operational costs.
Budgeting and Forecasting:
Lead annual budgeting and financial forecasting processes.
Monitor departmental budgets and ensure adherence to approved financial plans.
Analyze variances between actual and budgeted figures and recommend corrective actions.
Support departmental heads in financial planning and cost optimization.
Revenue and Cost Control:
Monitor hotel revenue streams including rooms, food & beverage, events, and other services.
Implement effective cost-control measures without compromising service quality.
Oversee inventory cost monitoring and operational expense management.
Ensure proper financial controls are in place to minimize waste, fraud, and losses.
Accounting Operations:
Oversee all accounting functions including accounts payable, receivable, payroll, taxation, and reconciliations.
Ensure accurate recording of financial transactions and proper maintenance of accounting records.
Supervise bank reconciliations, cash management, and financial documentation.
Ensure compliance with accounting standards and statutory requirements.
Internal Controls and Compliance:
Develop and maintain strong internal control systems.
Ensure compliance with tax regulations, financial policies, and hospitality industry standards.
Coordinate internal and external audits and implement audit recommendations.
Maintain confidentiality and integrity of all financial information.
Team Leadership and Development:
Lead and supervise the finance and accounting team.
Provide training, mentorship, and performance management for finance staff.
Promote accountability, professionalism, and continuous improvement within the department.
Cash Flow and Treasury Management:
Monitor cash flow, liquidity, and working capital requirements.
Ensure effective management of hotel funds and financial resources.
Oversee banking relationships and financial transactions.
Procurement and Asset Oversight:
Monitor procurement processes to ensure financial compliance and cost efficiency.
Support inventory and asset management procedures.
Ensure proper tracking and depreciation of hotel assets.
Reporting and Stakeholder Engagement:
Prepare financial presentations and reports for executive management and stakeholders.
Provide financial insights to support strategic decision-making.
Liaise with regulatory bodies, auditors, financial institutions, and tax authorities where necessary.
Experience / Qualification
Bachelor’s Degree or HND in Accounting, Finance, Economics, or related discipline
Professional certification such as ICAN, ACCA, ANAN, or equivalent is required
Master’s degree in Finance, Accounting, or Business Administration is an added advantage
8 - 12 years experience in finance or accounting, with at least 4–6 years in a senior finance management role within the hospitality industry
Strong knowledge of hotel financial operations, budgeting, revenue management, and internal controls
Experience with hospitality accounting systems and ERP software is highly desirable.
