Job Title: Accountant

Location: Port Harcourt, Rivers
Employment Type: Full-time

Job Summary

  • A reputable organization in Port Harcourt is seeking a highly organized and detail-oriented Accountant to join its finance team.
  • The successful candidate will be responsible for managing financial records, preparing reports, monitoring transactions, ensuring regulatory compliance, and supporting the organization's financial operations.
  • The ideal candidate should possess strong analytical skills, a sound understanding of accounting principles, and the ability to work effectively in a fast-paced environment.

Key Responsibilities

  • Prepare and maintain accurate financial records and accounting documentation.
  • Process accounts payable and accounts receivable transactions.
  • Reconcile bank statements and company accounts regularly.
  • Prepare monthly, quarterly, and annual financial reports.
  • Monitor cash flow, expenses, and budget performance.
  • Assist in preparing financial statements in accordance with applicable accounting standards.
  • Ensure compliance with tax regulations and statutory reporting requirements.
  • Process payroll and related statutory deductions where applicable.
  • Maintain the general ledger and perform journal entries.
  • Support internal and external audit activities.
  • Monitor financial transactions and identify discrepancies or irregularities.
  • Assist management with financial analysis and decision-making through timely reporting.
  • Ensure proper filing and safekeeping of financial records and supporting documents.

Key Performance Indicators (KPIs)

  • Accuracy and timeliness of financial reports.
  • Timely completion of reconciliation.
  • Compliance with statutory and regulatory requirements.
  • Effective management of accounts payable and receivable.
  • Accuracy of financial records and documentation.
  • Support provided for audits and financial reviews.

Requirements
Educational Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's Degree or HND qualification in Accounting, Finance, Economics, or a related discipline.

Experience:

  • 2–5 years of relevant accounting experience.
  • Experience in preparing financial reports, reconciliation, and statutory compliance documentation.
  • Experience with accounting software such as QuickBooks, Sage, Zoho Books, SAP, or similar platforms is an advantage.

Professional Certifications:

  • ACA, ACCA, ICAN, ANAN, or equivalent professional certification is an added advantage.

Required Skills and Competencies:

  • Strong knowledge of accounting principles and financial reporting.
  • Excellent analytical and numerical skills.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Excel and other Microsoft Office applications.
  • Strong attention to detail and accuracy.
  • Good understanding of tax regulations and statutory compliance requirements.
  • Excellent organizational and time-management skills.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to handle confidential financial information with integrity.
  • Ability to work independently and meet deadlines.
