About the Role
The Assistant Manager — Medical is a mid-senior leadership role responsible for driving the strategic and operational advancement of the company's medical affairs and pharmaceutical sales activities.
The role holder will leverage an established network among key medical opinion leaders (KOLs), healthcare institutions, and relevant medical associations to expand product reach, deepen brand credibility, and develop a high-performing medical sales team.
This position requires a qualified medical doctor (MBBS or equivalent) with a background in General Practice, Family Medicine, or Paediatrics, and a minimum of three years of relevant post-qualification experience.
Key Responsibilities
Medical Strategy & Business Development:
Develop and execute territory-level medical strategies aligned with company objectives.
Identify and capitalize on market opportunities through engagement with hospitals, clinics, pharmacies, and healthcare professionals.
Monitor competitor activities, healthcare trends, and regulatory developments to inform strategic decisions.
Drive product detailing and evidence-based promotion to physicians, specialists, and KOLs.
Leverage and expand an existing network of medical associations, specialist groups, and healthcare institutions.
Build and sustain relationships with influential KOLs to support product endorsement and clinical education initiatives.
Represent the company at medical conferences, symposia, CME events, and professional forums.
Serve as the primary liaison between the company and medical/healthcare stakeholders.
Team Leadership & Development:
Supervise, coach, and develop a team of Medical Sales Representatives (BCE), fostering a culture of accountability and performance.
Set clear performance targets for the team; conduct regular performance reviews and provide constructive feedback.
Design and lead onboarding and ongoing training programs covering product knowledge, clinical communication, and territory management.
Identify talent gaps and recommend recruitment, succession planning, and development interventions.
Sales Performance & Reporting:
Monitor and drive team achievement of monthly, quarterly, and annual sales targets.
Analyze sales data, market intelligence, and customer feedback to optimize territory planning and resource allocation.
Prepare and submit accurate sales forecasts, activity reports, and performance dashboards on a timely basis.
Collaborate with marketing and supply chain to ensure product availability and promotional alignment.
Compliance & Ethics:
Ensure all medical sales and promotional activities comply with NAFDAC regulations, company SOPs, and applicable industry codes.
Champion ethical standards across all team activities; address non-compliance issues promptly and decisively.
Maintain accurate and up-to-date records of customer interactions, territory data, and regulatory documentation.
Qualifications & Experience
MBBS or equivalent medical Degree (MBChB, MBBCh, etc.) with a background or clinical interest in General Practice, Family Medicine, or Paediatrics.
Postgraduate certification (FMCP, FWACP, or equivalent) is an added advantage.
Minimum of 3 years post-qualification experience in a clinical or medical commercial role — with at least 1 year in a supervisory or team-lead capacity.
Demonstrated track record of meeting or exceeding sales targets in a medical or pharmaceutical commercial environment.
Active, pre-existing relationships with medical associations, specialist bodies, hospital procurement decision-makers, and KOLs.
Strong working knowledge of NAFDAC regulations, pharmaceutical promotional standards, and Nigerian healthcare market dynamics.
Valid driver's license and willingness to travel extensively within and across assigned territories.
