Job Title: Data Analyst

The Role
The Analyst supports the production of high-quality analytical outputs, data summaries, and visualisations that inform programme delivery and organisational decision-making at MSI Nigeria.
Working under the direction of the Analytics Head, the role contributes to routine and ad hoc data analysis, maintains dashboards and reports, assists with data cleaning and preparation, and supports the broader analytics team in delivering timely and accurate insights.
The Analyst plays an important role in building MSI Nigeria’s data use culture by producing outputs that are clear, accessible, and decision-relevant.
Key Responsibilities
Data Analysis & Reporting:
Produce routine analytical reports and summaries on programme performance, service delivery metrics, and operational data as directed by the Analytics Head.
Clean, validate, and prepare datasets from MIS and field data systems for analysis and reporting purposes.
Contribute to the design, development, and maintenance of Power BI dashboards and data visualisations.
Conduct ad hoc data queries and analysis to respond to requests from programme teams, management, and the Analytics Head.
Ensure all analytical outputs are checked for accuracy before submission or presentation.
Data Quality & Validation:
Perform data quality checks on incoming datasets, identifying errors, gaps, duplicates, and inconsistencies.
Document data quality findings and communicate them clearly to the Analytics Head and relevant programme staff.
Support the development and application of standard data validation processes across the analytics team.
Maintain a log of data issues identified and their resolution status.
Dashboard & Tool Maintenance:
Maintain existing Power BI dashboards and reports, ensuring data connections are refreshing correctly and visualisations remain accurate.
Make directed amendments to dashboards and reports as requirements change, under the guidance of the Analytics Head.
Support the Analytics Head in designing new visualisations that clearly communicate programme and operational trends.
Document dashboard structure, data sources, and calculation logic for all maintained reports.
Collaboration & Support:
Liaise with M&E, MEL, and programme teams to understand reporting requirements and obtain the data needed for analysis.
Support the Analytics Head in preparing presentations, briefings, and summary documents for senior management.
Contribute to data literacy initiatives by assisting in the development of training materials and peer support resources.
Maintain organised filing and version control for all analytical work products
Experience/Qualification
Bachelor’s Degree in Statistics, Data Science, Mathematics, Public Health, Information Systems, or a related quantitative field
Minimum of 2 years’ experience in a data analysis, reporting, or business intelligence role.
Demonstrated experience producing analytical reports or dashboards using data visualisation tools.
Experience cleaning and preparing datasets for analysis.
Exposure to M&E, programme data, or health data in an NGO or public health context is an advantage.
Essential Skills & Competencies:
Proficiency in Power BI or a comparable business intelligence and data visualisation tool.
Strong working knowledge of Microsoft Excel, including pivot tables, formulas, and data cleaning techniques.
Good numerical reasoning and ability to interpret data accurately and clearly.
Attention to detail in data handling, checking, and presentation.
Clear written communication skills for reports, summaries, and documentation.
Ability to manage multiple tasks to deadlines and communicate progress proactively.
Desirable:
Familiarity with DAX, Power Query M, or SQL for advanced data transformation.
Experience with ODK, ONA, CommCare, or ORION data systems
Understanding of family planning programme indicators or global health reporting frameworks.
Knowledge of statistical analysis techniques for programme evaluation.
