Job Title: Contruction Works Superinetendent
Location: Epe, Lagos
The job objective
Ensure that all construction works are executed in accordance with approved designs, specifications, and contract requirements.
Safeguard the design intent and quality standards of construction works
Monitor contractor performance to ensure timely, safe, and cost-effective delivery
Provide independent and accurate reporting on progress, risks, and compliance
HSE Compliance and Monitoring
Responsibilities
The Construction Superintendent is responsible for monitoring, supervising, and overseeing the execution of construction works by contractors or in-house construction team to ensure compliance with approved designs, technical specifications, quality standards, safety requirements, and project schedules.
The role involves professional site oversight, quality assurance, progress monitoring, and contract compliance verification, ensuring the contractor delivers in accordance with the Alaro City’s specific requirements.
The Superintendent serves as the primary on-site representative, coordinating with the contractor, consultants, and stakeholders, while identifying risks, resolving site issues, and ensuring adherence to HSE and QA/QC standards throughout the project lifecycle.
Duties and Responsibilities include but not limited to
Monitor and oversee all construction activities carried out by the contractors and the in-house construction work teams
Ensure works are executed in accordance with approved drawings, specifications, and agreed methodologies
Review contractor submissions including shop drawings, method statements, and material approvals
Conduct daily site inspections and verify the quality and progress of works executed
Identify deviations from design intent and ensure timely corrective actions are implemented
Coordinate site activities between contractor, consultants, and client representatives
Monitor construction progress against the approved programme and milestone schedule
Review and validate contractor progress reports and provide independent assessments
Identify risks, delays, and bottlenecks, and recommend mitigation measures
Ensure all construction works meet required QA/QC standards and project specifications
Witness testing, commissioning, and inspection activities
Prepare and manage snag/punch lists and ensure closure of defects
Raise and track non-conformance reports (NCRs) and corrective actions
Ensure compliance with Health, Safety, and Environmental (HSE) policies and procedures
Monitor contractor safety performance and enforce safe work practices
Participate in safety inspections, audits, and incident investigations
Ensure adherence to permit-to-work systems and site safety protocols
Monitor contractor compliance with contractual obligations and scope of work
Support review of interim payment applications, variations, and claims
Verify that materials and workmanship meet approved standards
Maintain accurate records of site activities, including:
Daily logs and reports
Site instructions and correspondence
Inspection and approval records
Attend site meetings and provide professional advice and recommendations to the Client
Coordinate construction of specialized school facilities including classrooms, laboratories, sports infrastructure, and support areas
Support project close-out, handover, and final documentation processes
Jointly participate in weekly site meetings with Construction and Delivery Team and all contractors; checking progress; anticipating future works and potential interference with the clients;
Enforce demanded OSHA, and Alaro city’s safety standards and report all safety hazards to the Safety Officer
Ensure application and compliance with Group Anti-Corruption and Bribery Policy, AntiMoney Laundering Policy, and Clean Site Policy and Health.
Ensure detailed implementation of Health and Safety policies on site at all times; and
Perform other duties as assigned (i.e., assist project development teams and other departments as needed; participate in required training as applicable; etc.).
Requirements
Education & Professional Qualification:
Bachelor’s Degree in Civil or Structural Engineering (or equivalent)
Registered with a recognized and reputable professional engineering body (e.g., COREN, NSE, or international equivalent).
Hard Skills & Experience:
Minimum of 10 years’ hands-on experience in construction supervision and project execution, including top structure and infrastructure development.
Demonstrated expertise in:
Construction Management and Work Execution.
Cost Estimation and Budget Control.
Project Planning and Scheduling (including lookahead programmes)
Multi-disciplinary design review (Civil/Structural, Architectural, Mechanical, Electrical, Plumbing, and Fire Systems).
Proven experience in:
Site management, performance tracking, and progress reporting.
Workforce coordination, delegation, and supervision.
Managing contractors and subcontractors on complex projects.
Relevant Project Experience:
At least 5 years in a senior supervisory or client representative role
Proven experience overseeing Traditional and Design-Build projects.
Experience delivering or supervising institutional, educational, commercial, residential, or high-quality infrastructure developments.
Strong background in managing multi-disciplinary construction works and interfaces.
Key Competency Requirements:
Strong understanding of project delivery methodologies, particularly Design & Build
Excellent knowledge of construction methods, QA/QC standards, and HSE practices
Ability to read and interpret Civil/Structural, Architectural, Mechanical, Electrical, Plumbing, and Fire Protection drawings
Strong capabilities in:
Site inspection, quality assurance, and compliance monitoring
Technical reporting, documentation, and record-keeping
Problem-solving and analytical decision-making
Effective stakeholder management, communication, and coordination skills
High level of attention to detail and commitment to quality standards
Ability to work both independently and collaboratively within a team environment
Proficiency in:
CAD software (e.g., AutoCAD)
