Job Title: Joint Venture Lead
Location: Abuja (FCT)
Employment Type: Full-time
Reporting Line: CEO / Head of W2A Impact
Role Purpose
W2A Impact is seeking a Joint Venture Lead to drive the identification, structuring, negotiation, and execution of strategic joint ventures across agribusiness, agro-processing, industrial value chains, trade, solid minerals, energy, and other impact-driven sectors.
The role is designed for someone who can move opportunities from conversation to commercial reality. W2A already has access to international investors, industrial partners, development institutions, state governments, SMEs, processors, and trade/offtake opportunities.
However, many of these opportunities require proper structuring, partner alignment, due diligence, documentation, financing support, and follow-through.
The Joint Venture Lead will be responsible for ensuring that W2A Impact converts these relationships and pipelines into viable joint ventures, commercial partnerships, market-entry projects, investment opportunities, and long-term revenue-generating structures.
Key Responsibilities
The Joint Venture Lead will identify and assess potential JV opportunities from W2A’s existing pipeline of investors, SMEs, off-takers, industrial partners, state governments, development partners, and foreign companies seeking market entry into Nigeria and Africa.
They will lead the development of clear JV concepts, including partner profiles, commercial rationale, investment needs, ownership structure, revenue model, operational requirements, risk assessment, and implementation roadmap.
The role will involve coordinating due diligence on potential partners, including financial capacity, operational credibility, legal standing, technical capability, market access, and alignment with W2A Impact’s objectives.
They will work closely with Legal to support the preparation and negotiation of MOUs, term sheets, shareholder agreements, commercial agreements, supply agreements, and other relevant JV documentation.
They will also work with Finance & Strategy to assess project viability, financial models, capital requirements, return expectations, funding gaps, and possible financing structures.
The Joint Venture Lead will coordinate with W2A Trade where the JV involves exports, aggregation, supply chain development, warehouse operations, buyer-seller facilitation, or commodity-based transactions.
They will support W2A Connect in converting investment missions, roundtables, B2B meetings, and international engagements into tangible JV opportunities.
They will maintain a central JV pipeline tracker showing each opportunity, partners involved, deal stage, required actions, risks, documentation status, expected value, revenue potential for W2A, and next steps.
They will also be responsible for follow-up discipline, ensuring that opportunities do not remain at the level of meetings, interest, or broad conversations, but are actively moved toward execution.
Core Deliverables:
Within the first 90 days, the Joint Venture Lead should be able to:
Build a clear database of existing and potential JV opportunities across W2A Impact, W2A Trade, W2A Connect, and W2A Impact Capital.
Prioritise at least 10 high-potential JV opportunities with clear commercial and impact rationale.
Develop JV briefs for each priority opportunity, including partner profile, business case, structure, funding need, risks, and next steps.
Support the negotiation or advancement of at least 3 serious JV opportunities.
Create a standard JV assessment template, due diligence checklist, and deal-stage tracker.
Work with Legal and Finance to create a simple internal process for approving, structuring, and monitoring JVs.
Key Performance Indicators
The role will be measured by the number of credible JV opportunities identified, structured, and advanced.
Core KPIs may include:
Number of JV opportunities mapped and assessed monthly.
Number of JV briefs developed and approved.
Number of MOUs, term sheets, or commercial agreements advanced.
Value of investment, trade, or partnership pipeline created.
Number of JVs moved from discussion to execution stage.
Revenue generated or expected for W2A through facilitation fees, advisory fees, success fees, equity participation, management fees, or trade margins.
Quality and completeness of due diligence conducted.
Timeliness of partner follow-up and reporting.
Level of coordination with Legal, Finance, Trade, Connect, and Impact Capital.
Required Experience
The ideal candidate should have experience in investment facilitation, business development, transaction advisory, project structuring, partnerships, corporate finance, commercial strategy, or market-entry support.
They should understand how joint ventures work, including partner alignment, ownership structures, risk sharing, capital contribution, governance, revenue models, and exit considerations.
Experience in agribusiness, agro-processing, trade, manufacturing, solid minerals, renewable energy, infrastructure, SME financing, or development finance would be an advantage.
The candidate should also be comfortable dealing with investors, entrepreneurs, government officials, development partners, foreign companies, legal teams, finance teams, and operational partners.
Required Skills:
The role requires strong commercial thinking, excellent written and verbal communication, negotiation ability, research and analytical skills, financial understanding, stakeholder management, and disciplined follow-up.
The candidate must be able to prepare clear documents, including concept notes, JV briefs, investor memos, partner profiles, commercial proposals, and internal approval notes.
They must also be organised enough to manage several live opportunities at different stages without losing track of next steps, risks, deadlines, and responsibilities.
Ideal Candidate Profile
The ideal candidate is not just a business development person. They must be a deal-structuring person.
They should be able to look at an opportunity and ask: Who are the parties? What does each party bring? What is the commercial logic? What is the risk? What is the funding need? What structure makes sense? How does W2A make money? What is the impact? What has to happen next?
This person must be proactive, commercially minded, detail-oriented, and comfortable working in a fast-moving environment where opportunities are many, but structure and execution are critical.
Why This Role Matters:
W2A is increasingly positioned as a trusted platform for connecting African opportunities with global investors, industrial partners, development finance institutions, off-takers, and strategic partners. However, relationships alone are not enough.
The organisation needs strong internal capacity to convert these relationships into structured, bankable, and executable joint ventures.
The Joint Venture Lead will therefore play a central role in helping W2A Impact move from opportunity identification to actual implementation, revenue generation, investment mobilisation, and measurable impact.
