Shell Petroleum Development Company (SPDC) is the pioneer and leader of the petroleum industry in Nigeria. We invest heavily in our employees, which is reflected in our industry-leading development programme and our commitment to see our employees’ ideas travel and come to fruition.

We are recruiting to fill the position below:

Job Title: Project Security Lead

Job Requisition ID: R199466
Location: Lagos
Job Type: Full time
Job Family Group: Health, Safety, Security, and Environment
Worker Type: Regular
Business unit: Integrated Gas and Upstream
Experience Level: Experienced Professionals

What you’ll be doing

  • You will provide security supervision and project management support for growth projects throughout the opportunity maturation, execution, and handover phases, ensuring that security risks are systematically identified, integrated with other project risks, and reduced to As Low As Reasonably Practicable (ALARP) in line with corporate and industry standards.
  • You will contribute directly to project decision‑making, assurance, cross‑functional coordination, and delivery readiness.

This shall include but not limited to the following:

  • Lead and coordinate the identification, assessment, and development of security risk mitigation plans within the project risk management framework, ensuring alignment with project objectives, schedule, cost, and proactive risk management to ALARP through participation in pre‑DG4 cadence meetings and support to package leads.
  • Provide structured security input into cross‑discipline integration workshops, project reviews, and planning activities to ensure security requirements are embedded across engineering, logistics, execution, and operations, including participation in daily integrated logistics planning for project movements.
  • Support the delivery of all security requirements and documentation across ORS Decision Gates (DG1–DG5), including seamless transfer of deliverables from pre‑DG3 to execution stage and contribution to pre‑startup/handover security risk assessments.
  • Ensure compliance with Group Security Standards and SEAM Framework while evaluating and applying security technologies and industry best practices to strengthen security posture, enhance resilience, and optimize lifecycle costs.
  • Provide direct oversight and assurance of the effectiveness of company and contractor security plans, including conducting Security LOD1 assurance on all project activities and movements and driving consistent implementation of mitigations in line with approved plans to manage risks to ALARP.
  • Monitor and maintain effectiveness of physical security measures at the project site (to deter, deny, detect, delay, and respond), while engaging daily with Security Coordinators and Intelligence teams to gather/share threat intelligence and interfacing with Bonga FPSO and Security Operations Centre to maintain a common operating picture across SCiN operations.
  • Collaborate closely with contractor security teams and Project Site Security Coordinators to ensure availability and adequacy of GSAs and fit‑for‑purpose security vessels, coordinate emergency responses, conduct regular security drills, and ensure implementation of lessons learned and recommendations.
  • Support governance and operational readiness by delivering VPSHR briefings to GSAs and reporting violations, while deputizing for the Project Security Manager on Bonga North Project activities as required.

What you bring

  • Bachelor’s degree from a recognized institution preferred; a postgraduate qualification in a relevant field and professional industrial security certifications (e.g., PFSO, PSP, CPP from ASIS or equivalent) are considered an advantage.
  • At least 4 years of relevant experience, including a minimum of 2 years in project delivery roles within top-tier consulting firms or data-driven industry environments.
  • Strong capabilities in project management, analytics, planning, communication, and writing, with the ability to collaborate effectively across teams to deliver results.
  • Knowledge of Exploration & Production (E&P) business, particularly in the Niger Delta and Gulf of Guinea, with exposure to energy, infrastructure, or regulated industries being beneficial.
  • Understanding of security and geopolitical dynamics across the Niger Delta region of Nigeria and the Gulf of Guinea.
  • Proficiency in computing, including managing data, creating and maintaining simple databases, using activity planning tools, and working knowledge of Microsoft Office (Excel, PowerPoint, SharePoint) and digital collaboration/reporting tools.
  • Experience managing security logistics escorts for onshore and offshore activities, with flexibility for travel and remote working as required.
  • Flexibility to combine pre‑DG3 roles while supporting project security execution as needed.
