Job Title: Quality Control Superintendent
Location: Onitsha, Anambra
Employment Type: Full-time
Department: Quality Assurance & Quality Control (QA/QC)
Reports To: QA/QC Manager / Plant Manager
Job Summary
The Quality Control (QC) Superintendent will take full ownership of the day-to-day inspection, testing, and validation of all materials and products within our plastics manufacturing facility.
This role demands an authoritative, technically sound leader who can establish, maintain, and enforce rigorous quality control parameters from raw material receipt through the production cycle (injection/blow moulding) to finished goods dispatch.
The primary objective of this role is to ensure zero-defect manufacturing, eliminate product failures in the market, optimize inline testing procedures, and champion a culture of continuous quality improvement on the shop floor.
Key Duties and Responsibilities
Quality Control System & Protocol Enforcement:
Oversee and optimize all inline, laboratory, and end-of-line quality control processes across all manufacturing shifts.
Establish precise, written Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs), defect catalogs, and limit-sample parameters for injection and blow-moulded products.
Lead daily shift audits to verify that machine parameters, structural weights, aesthetics, and dimensions exactly align with Approved Product Specifications.
Material Inspection & Laboratory Testing:
Enforce rigorous testing procedures for incoming raw materials (virgin polymers, master batches, additives, and regrind), evaluating melt flow index (MFI), moisture content, and density.
Direct destructive and non-destructive stress/durability testing on finished plastic goods, including drop tests, top-load testing, wall-thickness distribution analysis, and environmental stress crack resistance (ESCR).
Manage the validation and usage ratios of regrind/recycled plastics to protect the physical integrity and color consistency of finished batches.
Non-Conformance Management & Root-Cause Analysis:
Serve as the final authority on holding, rejecting, or releasing batches; quarantine non-conforming materials instantly to prevent distribution.
Lead structured Root-Cause Analyses (RCA) using tools like 5-Whys or Fishbone diagrams when defects (such as warping, short shots, flashing, or color streaks) exceed acceptable scrap thresholds.
Collaborate directly with the Production Manager and Maintenance Engineers to adjust machine settings or fix tooling errors causing quality drifts.
Equipment Calibration & Compliance:
Oversee the strict calibration schedules of all laboratory testing equipment, measuring tools (micrometers, calipers, weight scales), and automated inline vision sensors.
Ensure the plant complies continuously with regulatory standards (such as SON, NAFDAC, or ISO 9001:2015 quality management guidelines) where applicable.
Job Specification
Experience & Industry Technical Depth:
Proven Experience: A minimum of 4 to 7+ years of verified experience driving quality control processes, with at least 2 years in a supervisory or superintendent capacity.
Plastics Domain Mastery: Extensive, mandatory background working within a plastics manufacturing environment (specifically utilizing injection moulding, blow moulding, or extrusion technologies).
Deep knowledge of polymer variations (PET, HDPE, PP, PVC), processing additives, and common processing defects is required.
Educational Background & Academic Qualifications:
Minimum Education: Bachelor’s Degree or Higher National Diploma (HND) in Polymer/Plastics Engineering, Chemical Engineering, Industrial Chemistry, Materials Science, or a related technical discipline.
Added Advantage: Professional certifications in Quality Management Systems (e.g., ISO 9001 Lead Auditor, Certified Quality Engineer - CQE, or Six Sigma Green/Black Belt) will be highly prioritized.
Technical Competencies & Essential Attributes:
Metrology & Testing Literacy: High proficiency in operating laboratory test equipment and interpreting complex technical schematics, drawings, and product blueprints.
Data-Driven & Analytical: Advanced capacity to utilize Statistical Process Control (SPC) tools, tracking defects and compiling comprehensive quality metrics via Microsoft Excel.
Attention to Detail: An uncompromising eye for microscopic structural and aesthetic variations, alongside a strict adherence to auditable paperwork.
Leadership & Personal Qualities:
Firm & Decisive Leadership: Ability to stand firm on quality boundaries and halt production lines if necessary, balanced with the diplomatic skills needed to manage floor technicians and operators.
Problem-Solving Skills: A highly systematic approach to finding and fixing problems under tight delivery timelines.
Shift Flexibility: Willingness to support and supervise quality operations across rotating day/night production shifts during critical manufacturing turnarounds.
Application Closing Date
21st July, 2026.
