Responsible for efficient daily milling activities to assure operations are optimized.
The primary activities of this position include the operation of the milling process, prioritizing and assigning proactive and reactive milling maintenance, troubleshooting milling issues and maintaining quality product output.
The role also includes activities like repairing day planning, procuring needed milling materials, controlling spare parts inventory for rolls, sifters, purifiers, and other milling equipment.
This is a people management position and requires managing hands - on training for new and existing millers, ensuring best practice execution and performing work quality checks. A keen understanding of costs and a business acumen to ensure profitability is critical for the position.
Key Deliverables & Performance Areas
Manufacturing & Operations
Milling Efficiency: Maximize milling efficiency in the plant daily by focusing on the adjustment and operation of the mill.
Production Planning: Execute production planning as directed by the Head / Chief Miller.
Extraction Targets: Maintain extraction rates as specified by management.
Quality Control: Maintain product quality according to established parameters.
Troubleshooting: Troubleshoot equipment, optimize mill performance, and solve flow problems.
Reporting: Document production and shift reports, including process and maintenance issues.
Downtime Logs: Report all operational downtimes directly to the Head / Chief Miller.
Hygiene, Safety & Improvement:
Sanitation Management: Perform and monitor all sanitation duties as assigned, ensuring hygiene personnel on shift execute their cleaning duties.
Regulatory Compliance: Ensure full compliance with all organizational, regulatory, statutory, and safety rules, including GMP, QMS, FSMS, and 5S requirements.
Pest & Dust Control: Ensure the shop floor area is free of weevils, monitor the frequent cleaning of workstations, and eliminate all dark spots in the system.
Documentation: Ensure 100% compliance with all cleaning schedules and compliance records.
Audit Readiness: Maintain high compliance ratings for all Hygiene, GMP, OHS, EMS, and 5S audits.
Safety Standards:
Incident Prevention: Achieve ZERO Accidents (Lost Time Injuries / LTA).
Emission Control: Maintain a maximum of 250mg particulate discharge to the atmosphere.
Daily Routines: Ensure compliance with daily pep talks, workplace inspections, and Gemba walks.
Safety Reporting: Submit a minimum of 20 safety reports monthly.
Cost Control & Budgeting:
Waste Reduction: Reduce packaging material (PM) waste to a maximum of 0.5% monthly.
Cost Management: Control and minimize operational and overhead costs within the section.
Capital Projects: Manage departmental budgeting and accountability by identifying, managing, and prioritizing the mill operations capital project portfolio.
Vendor & Facilities Management:
Contractor Oversight: Manage vendors, contracts, and cost controls for routine services such as cleaning, refuse disposal, and gardening.
Cost Negotiation: Discuss costs and performance with external contractors to ensure cost - effective yet quality service, exploring innovative approaches to improve delivery.
Grounds Maintenance: Ensure perimeter and yard areas are well - maintained to build an aesthetically pleasing workplace.
Organizational & Personnel Effectiveness:
Record Keeping: Maintain and administer all personnel records and systems relating to employees (excluding records of sickness, absenteeism, and holidays, which are recorded in the general office).
Document Security: Coordinate with managers to ensure the safekeeping of all company agreements and financial instruments.
Internal Communication: Encourage excellent communication across the plant through team briefings, formal, and informal discussions, utilizing multi - channel communication for better outcomes.
Training & Development: Coordinate with managers to identify personnel training needs, actively promoting training and personal development on-site.
Adaptability: Exhibit a flexible approach to working and explore new possibilities. Perform other management tasks as required for the wellbeing and advancement of the business.
Requirements
B.Sc. Engineering / Food Science.
Minimum of 4 years’ hands - on experience in wheat milling.
The candidate should have proven experience in production, milling operations role in flour / feed products, and managed large independent operations
Excellent people management skills and should be able to lead a diversified team of different nationalities and skillsets.
Communicate and interface with all levels of the organization and external agencies / contacts including statutory bodies
Demonstrate ability to manage multiple activities concurrently (Multitasking)
Creativity / Self Initiative, Teamwork, Communications Skills and Leadership.
NABIMS, Diploma in Milling from a recognized Milling School.
