Position Purpose / Job Brief

• The Engine/Auxiliary Room Operator serves as the CRO's primary physical interface on the plant floor, responsible for the hands-on monitoring, operation, and first-line maintenance support of all reciprocating engines, auxiliary systems, and associated balance-of-plant (BoP) equipment.
• This role is critical to translating control room instructions into safe, precise floor-level actions.

Key Responsibilities & Accountabilities

• Conduct structured, hourly floor patrols of the engine hall and all auxiliary areas (cooling, fuel treatment, compressed air, lubrication, exhaust systems), documenting all readings in shift logbooks.
• Operate engines and auxiliary systems (pumps, fans, heat exchangers, separators, compressors) in strict accordance with SOPs and CRO instructions.
• Monitor key parameters including vibration, bearing temperatures, lube oil pressure, jacket water temperature, and exhaust gas temperatures against alarm/trip setpoints.
• Detect, assess, and promptly report equipment anomalies, unusual sounds, leaks, or developing faults to the CRO and maintenance teams.
• Perform fuel and lubrication oil transfers, centrifugal purification operations, and day tank management in compliance with fuel quality procedures.
• Support maintenance teams during planned preventive maintenance (PM) activities, including pre-start and post-maintenance checks.
• Prepare, isolate, and de-isolate equipment in readiness for maintenance work under valid PTW authority.
• Apply 5S housekeeping standards to all work areas; ensure drip trays, spill kits, and environmental controls are maintained.
• Respond immediately to plant emergencies, executing floor-level emergency shutdown steps per the plant emergency response plan (ERP).
• Maintain accurate and detailed floor-level operational records and consumable usage logs.

Academic & Professional Qualifications

• Bachelor of Science (BSc) or Bachelor of Engineering (B.Eng.) in Mechanical Engineering or equivalent technical discipline.
• Minimum of five (5) years of direct experience operating large-bore diesel, gas, or HFO reciprocating engines in a power generation environment.
• Practical knowledge of centrifugal purifier operation, pump maintenance fundamentals, and lubrication system management.
• Familiarity with fluid mechanics principles, vibration monitoring, and condition-based maintenance practices.
• Certified in relevant HSE competencies: PTW, LOTO, confined space awareness, and manual handling.
