Job Title: Backend Lead (Python / AI Systems) at Reviel

Description

• We are looking to hire a Backend Lead to take ownership of the backend systems powering the product.
• This is a critical role for a strong Python backend engineer who can step into an existing system, quickly understand how it works, strengthen the architecture, and lead backend execution going forward.

Job Summary

• The Backend Lead will be responsible for owning Reviel's backend systems and helping drive the next stage of the product's technical development.
• This role is not limited to API development alone. It requires someone who can take over an existing backend/AI system, improve reliability and structure, support AI integrations, manage third-party services, and work closely with the founders on backend direction and technical decision-making.
• The ideal candidate should be comfortable working across backend architecture, database design, asynchronous processing, AI/LLM integrations, cloud deployment support, and production debugging in a startup environment.

Key Responsibilities

• Own the backend architecture, stability, and technical direction of Reviel's platform
• Take over an existing backend/AI system, understand the current architecture quickly, and improve it with sound engineering judgment
• Build, maintain, and scale backend services and APIs using Python
• Lead backend implementation for AI-powered product features and supporting workflows
• Work with PostgreSQL, Redis, and background job systems such as Celery to support scalable and reliable backend operations
• Design and maintain asynchronous workflows for long-running and background tasks
• Integrate third-party APIs and manage token refresh, webhooks, external service communication, and backend data flow
• Implement secure authentication and authorization systems, including OAuth, JWT, and secure handling of credentials and tokens
• Improve system performance, observability, debugging, logging, and deployment workflows
• Work closely with the founders on technical planning, backend priorities, architecture trade-offs, and execution decisions
• Produce clear technical documentation and reduce backend knowledge gaps or single points of failure
• Make careful engineering decisions in a product environment that requires privacy, reliability, and safety-conscious thinking

Requirements

• Minimum of 5 years backend engineering experience, with at least 2 years in a senior or lead capacity
• Strong hands-on Python development experience
• Strong experience with backend frameworks such as Flask, FastAPI, or Django
• Good understanding of backend architecture, API design, asynchronous processing, and production systems
• Experience with PostgreSQL and ORM tools such as SQLAlchemy
• Experience with Redis and background job processing tools such as Celery
• Experience integrating external APIs and building reliable backend services around them
• Familiarity with authentication and security concepts such as OAuth 2.0, JWT, API keys, and secure secret handling
• Experience with Docker and containerized services
• Strong debugging, problem-solving, and written communication skills
• Ability to take ownership, work independently, and make sound technical decisions in a fast-moving startup environment.

Added Advantage:

• Experience building or integrating LLM/AI-powered features
• Experience with Google Gemini, Vertex AI, OpenAI, Anthropic, or similar AI platforms
• Familiarity with RAG pipelines, embeddings, vector databases, or semantic retrieval systems
• Experience deploying backend services to Azure or similar cloud platforms
• Experience working on health, wellness, or other safety-sensitive products.

Salary
N500,000 monthly.
