The Junior Registrar will play an integral role in delivering safe, effective, and evidence-based medical care to patients within the assigned department.
The successful candidate will participate in the assessment, diagnosis, treatment, and ongoing management of patients while receiving supervision and mentorship from senior clinicians.
The role also provides opportunities to participate in clinical teaching, quality improvement initiatives, research activities, and continuing professional development.
Key Responsibilities
The successful candidate will be expected to:
Assess, examine, and manage patients presenting with a variety of medical conditions.
Develop appropriate diagnostic and treatment plans under the supervision of consultants and senior registrars.
Participate in daily ward rounds and multidisciplinary team meetings.
Review patients in outpatient clinics, emergency units, and inpatient wards as assigned.
Perform appropriate clinical procedures within the scope of practice and level of training.
Respond promptly to emergency situations and provide timely medical intervention.
Maintain accurate, comprehensive, and confidential patient medical records.
Request and interpret laboratory and radiological investigations where appropriate.
Communicate effectively with patients and their families regarding diagnosis, treatment plans, and follow-up care.
Work collaboratively with nurses, pharmacists, allied health professionals, and administrative staff to ensure coordinated patient care.
Participate in departmental teaching sessions, seminars, morbidity and mortality meetings, journal clubs, and clinical audits.
Assist in supervising and mentoring interns, house officers, and medical students where appropriate.
Ensure compliance with hospital policies, infection prevention protocols, patient safety standards, and ethical guidelines.
Participate in departmental on-call and shift rotas, including weekends and public holidays when required.
Contribute to research projects, clinical governance activities, and quality improvement initiatives.
Qualifications and Experience
Applicants should possess:
Medical degree (MBBS or equivalent) from a recognized institution.
Full registration and a valid practising licence with the relevant Medical and Dental Council.
Successful completion of internship and any mandatory national service requirements (where applicable).
Previous clinical experience in a hospital setting is desirable.
Demonstrated commitment to pursuing postgraduate specialist training.
