Founded in 2021 in Okija, Anambra State, Gonzaga Jesuit College is the fourth Jesuit secondary school in Nigeria, following those in Abuja, Port Harcourt, and Lagos. It is run by the Society of Jesus, in collaboration with the Handmaids of the Holy Child Jesus, and welcomes both Christian and non-Christian students.

We are recruiting to fill the position below:

Job Title: Christian Religious Studies / Catholic Social Teaching Teacher

Location: Okija, Anambra
Employment Type: Full-time

Job Description

  • The CRS / CST Teacher is responsible for instructing students in Biblical literacy, Christian history, and the foundational principles of Catholic Social Teaching.
  • The role involves guiding students to apply Catholic social doctrine such as human dignity, the common good, solidarity, and care for creation, to contemporary social, economic, and ethical issues, while preparing them for academic excellence.

Key Responsibilities

  • Design and deliver lessons that integrate standard CRS topics with the core pillars of Catholic Social Teaching.
  • Help students connect scriptural knowledge with practical social justice, community service, and ethical decision-making.
  • Prepare, administer, and grade continuous assessments, termly examinations, and mock tests in line with institutional and national standards.
  • Maintain a structured, respectful classroom environment that encourages thoughtful discussion on complex moral and social issues.

Requirements
Educational Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Education with a specialization in Christian Religious Studies / Religious Studies (B.A. Ed. / B.Ed.).
  • Alternative: A Bachelor of Arts (B.A.) in Theology, Religious Studies, or Philosophy from a recognized Catholic or secular university, combined with a Post Graduate Diploma in Education (PGDE).
  • Professional certification with the national teaching regulatory body (e.g., TRCN) is highly preferred.

Experience:

  • Minimum of 3 years of teaching experience in a secondary school, preferably within a Catholic educational institution.

Skills & Competencies:

  • Theological Competence: Deep knowledge of the Old and New Testaments, Catholic theology, papal encyclicals (e.g., Rerum Novarum, Laudato Si’, Fratelli Tutti), and the Catechism of the Catholic Church.
  • Instructional Technique: Proficiency in lesson planning, objective grading, and utilizing modern educational tools to teach abstract ethical concepts.
  • Critical Thinking Facilitation: Ability to lead balanced, mature discussions on social justice, human rights, and contemporary societal challenges.
  • Empathy & Mentorship: Strong interpersonal skills to provide moral guidance, counseling, and spiritual mentorship to students.

  • Practicing Catholic: A strong commitment to the Catholic faith, with a lifestyle that reflects Gospel values and church teachings.
  • Commitment to Duty: Exceptional professional discipline, punctuality, and dedication to the holistic formation of youth.
  • Ethical Standing: Unblemished character reference from a parish priest or previous institutional employer.

Remuneration

  • Competitive base salary aligned with the institution’s established salary structure (Salary: N150,000 per month).
