About the Role
We are seeking an experienced, entrepreneurial, and highly organized Farm Manager to oversee, drive, and scale our fully integrated 10-hectare commercial farm in Kano.
This is a top-tier management role requiring a rare blend of technical expertise across multiple agricultural value chains and robust commercial acumen.
In addition to day-to-day operations, a critical focus of this role is the development and execution of structured breeding programmes to ensure flock, herd, and fingerling sustainability, genetic quality, and continuous production cycles.
You will have full operational and financial accountability for the farm, leading a diverse team to optimize yields, maintain strict biosecurity, and ensure profitability.
Genetic & Selection Strategy: Establish and execute structured breeding programmes for livestock, poultry, and aquaculture to improve traits such as growth rate, feed conversion, and disease resistance.
Hatchery & Reproduction Control: Oversee hatchery operations for poultry and artificial propagation/induced spawning in the aquaculture unit to maintain a steady supply of high-quality fingerlings and chicks.
Line & Pedigree Tracking: Maintain meticulous records of lineages, birth rates, mortality rates, and genetic performance to prevent inbreeding and optimize herd/flock health.
Replacement Planning: Manage the selection and introduction of superior breeding stock and the timely culling of unproductive animals.
Integrated Production Management:
Greenhouse Management: Oversee production, irrigation, climate control, and pest/disease management across 30 greenhouses.
Livestock & Poultry Care: Manage feeding regimes, veterinary schedules, and animal welfare across all growth stages.
Aquaculture: Oversee pond/tank dynamics, water quality monitoring, stocking density, maintain biosecurity, improve productivity and harvesting schedules.
Circular Integration: Optimize the farm’s circular economy by utilizing animal waste for soil enrichment and aquaculture effluents for crop irrigation.
Financial & Business Management:
Timeline Forecasting: Develop annual production budgets, forecasting yields based on the timeline of the breeding cycles.
Inventory Controls: Implement strict inventory controls for feed, veterinary inputs, genetics/semen (if applicable), seeds, and farm equipment.
Metrics Analysis: Analyze production metrics against market demands to maximize cost efficiency and profit margins.
Team Leadership & Governance:
Mentorship & Discipline: Supervise, mentor, and evaluate supervisors, technicians, and farm laborers, fostering a culture of accountability and precision.
Biosecurity Enforcements: Enforce world-class health, safety, and biosecurity protocols specifically tailored to protect vulnerable breeding stock and young stocks.
People Management:
Recruit, train and develop farm personnel.
Manage performance and foster accountability and teamwork.
Asset & Resource Management:
Maintain machinery, irrigation systems, buildings and equipment.
Manage inventory and procurement.
Compliance & Quality Assurance:
Ensure compliance with regulations, HSE, biosecurity and food safety.
Required Qualifications & Experience
Education: Bachelor’s degree or Higher National Diploma (HND) in Animal Science, Animal Breeding and Genetics, Agronomy, Agriculture, or a closely related discipline.
Experience: Minimum of 5 years of hands-on experience in commercial farm management, with demonstrated success in managing livestock/poultry breeding programmes or fish hatcheries with a minimum of 1 year in senior farm management.
Technical Skills: Deep knowledge of reproductive management, animal nutrition, biosecurity protocols, artificial insemination/induced spawning techniques, and modern greenhouse irrigation.
Language & Culture: Professional fluency in English; proficiency in Hausa is highly advantageous given the operational location.
Location Flexibility: Willingness to reside on the farm in Kano.
