We are recruiting to fill the position below:

Job Title: WASH Information Officer

Location: Maiduguri, Borno
Employment Type: Temporary
Reporting to: WASH Manager
Time frame: 3 months

Job Summary

  • We are now seeking the right candidate to join our team as a WASH Information Officer to help us further our mission and contribute to enhanced program impact.

General Description

  • The Information Management (IM)/GIS Officer supports the effective management of WASH information and GIS activities in Maiduguri, North-East Nigeria. Working closely with the Federal Ministry of Water Resources and Sanitation (FMWRS), the Borno State Government, The wash sectors, especially with the wash sector leads, WASH partners, and other stakeholders, the role supports the collection, analysis, visualisation, and dissemination of quality data to strengthen WASH coordination, planning, monitoring, and reporting.
  • The role contributes to maintaining information management systems, producing maps, dashboards, and analytical products, and supporting evidence-based decision-making for preparedness, emergency response, recovery, and resilience-building. The position mainly supports cholera preparedness and response by assisting with data analysis, hotspot mapping, reporting, and information sharing to improve coordination and operational planning.

Job Roles and Responsibilities

  • Support the collection, validation, analysis, and dissemination of WASH information to inform programme planning, coordination, monitoring, and reporting.
  • Maintain and update WASH information management systems, databases, dashboards, and GIS platforms to ensure data quality and accessibility.
  • Produce maps, dashboards, situation reports, infographics, and other information products to support operational decision-making.
  • Support the management of digital information management platforms, including ActivityInfo, HumanitarianResponse.info, Power BI, ArcGIS, QGIS, and other relevant tools.
  • Conduct data quality checks and verification to ensure the accuracy, consistency, and completeness of information received from partners.
  • Compile, analyse, and present WASH data and trends to support preparedness, emergency response, recovery, and resilience-building activities.
  • Support cholera preparedness and response through data analysis, hotspot mapping, surveillance reporting, and information sharing.
  • Assist in coordinating information management activities with government institutions, UN agencies, NGOs, and other humanitarian partners.
  • Support the preparation of regular information products, analytical reports, and presentations for coordination meetings, management, and donors.
  • Contribute to needs assessments, surveys, evaluations, and other information management activities as required.
  • Support the development and implementation of standard information management tools, templates, and reporting processes.
  • Provide technical support to government counterparts and partners on information management tools, data collection, reporting, and GIS applications, as required.
  • Participate in coordination meetings, technical working groups, and other relevant forums, representing the organisation as delegated.
  • Maintain proper documentation and filing of information management products, datasets, and reports in line with organisational standards.
  • Perform any other related duties as assigned by the supervisor.

Qualification and experience
Essential Criteria:

  • Minimum of a university degree in Information Management, Geographic Information Systems (GIS), Computer Science, Information Technology, Statistics, Geography, Data Science, or another relevant discipline.
  • Extensive relevant professional experience may be considered in lieu of an advanced university degree.
  • Formal training in humanitarian information management, GIS, or WASH Sector coordination is desirable.

Experience:

  • 4-7 years of progressively responsible experience in humanitarian information management with the UN, government institutions, NGOs, or international organizations.
  • Demonstrated experience supporting WASH Sector coordination, emergency preparedness, and cholera preparedness and response.
  • Experience working with government ministries and humanitarian coordination mechanisms in complex emergency settings is highly desirable.

Language Requirements:

  • Fluency in English is required.
  • Knowledge of Hausa or other languages spoken in North-East Nigeria is an advantage.
