Established in 2003, Malaria Consortium is one of the world’s leading non-profit organisations specialising in the prevention, control and treatment of malaria and other communicable diseases among vulnerable populations. Our mission is to save lives and improve health in Africa and Asia, through evidence-based programmes that combat targeted diseases and promote universal health coverage.

We are recruiting to fill the position below:

Job Title: Data Collector

  • This study involves the systematic extraction of clinical and demographic information from health facility records and the collection of caregiver‑reported data to validate SMC uptake, awareness, and experiences with malaria prevention.
  • Data collectors will play a central role in ensuring the completeness, accuracy, and reliability of both record‑based and caregiver‑reported information.
  • The scope of work will focus on several key areas: retrospective review of hospital records to identify eligible severe malaria cases and matched controls; extraction of anonymised clinical data; tracing and interviewing caregivers; ensuring high data quality; documenting operational challenges; and upholding ethical standards.
  • This assignment is critical to generating high-quality evidence to inform improvements in SMC delivery and strengthen malaria prevention strategies in Northern Nigeria.

Responsibilities for Data Collectors

  • Participate in daily debriefs, document challenges; escalate issues.
  • Maintain confidentiality, respect participant autonomy; conduct interviews sensitively.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Public Health, Nursing, Health Records Management, Social Sciences or related field.
  • 1 - 2 years' experience in field data collection, community research, or health facility record review.
  • Ability to use digital data collection tools (ODK, KoboCollect).
  • Good communication skills in English and local language(s).
  • Strong attention to detail and ability to follow protocols.
  • Experience in field health data collection exercise
  • Familiarity with and respect for the tradition and culture of the locality

  • Most own functioning android phone (with access to internet).

Deliverables:

  • Complete and enter accurate survey data into the electronic platform.
  • Daily process and activity reports highlighting any data inconsistencies and corrective actions taken using approved template.
